Forgot to cover the Jump Start last
week, Momiji no Kisetsu by Masayoshi Satoshō, but it’s easy enough to summarize. Momiji’s brother Sakura was a great
shogi player, but died of a disease before he could reach the top. He seeks to
become the Dragon King (highest rank in shogi, I believe?), becoming the
apprentice of the Silver Princess Icho Ichihara. She lets him realize his potential
as a defensive shogi player
This week’s Jump Start is Invade You
or Kimi Wo Shinryakuseyo in Japan, by Kazusa Inaoka. Hajime Sorajima is an alien that can
transform into a human. He’s seen in mid transformation by Ria Aiba, who
insists he’s an alien, but he persists in keeping up the façade. The series is
mostly a gag with slice of life as the general setting, but it’s fun, albeit it
needs a bit more to keep going and be remotely like something in the vein of
Saiki Kusuo
And I’ll be covering Fire Force from
now on. It’s a great series by Soul Eater’s author Atsuhi Okubo featuring a
world where fire has devastated most of the globe and Japan is at the center of
a society that still has to fight people that turn into Infernals, bursting
into flame, using their own special powers involving fire and heat
Dr. Stone 59
Senkuu notes that with the
acquisition of radio waves, they’ve stepped into the era of more modern
science, used for so many things like internet and even TV
Kohaku wonders how they’ll transmit
sound with the radio waves, Senkuu taking some residue from wine barrels and
seaweed, mixing them together and boiling them to make some crystals
We learn they’re Rochelle crystals,
able to convert sound into electromagnetic waves, which they affix onto some
megaphones to create what is called a cellphone (it’s really more a
walkie-talkie or a mobile megaphone or just a basic radio even)
Kohaku asks how they’ll receive the
sound, Senkuu saying they need to make another place like this, which makes
them irritated that he hid that from them, though it makes sense as well.
In the meantime, they can make a
rough landline telephone by connecting a wire to another megaphone to the chief’s
hut.
Chrome and Ruri are on two ends of
this phone, Ginrou telling him he needs to tell her his feelings now that he
has this chance
Not understanding what they meant,
Chrome excitedly tells Ruri that he’s happy at how amazing science is, the
others angry that he wasted this moment on that
Ruri comments that it’s like a
speaker, though Senkuu is confused until she explains that speaker is a name
for a particular species of bee, one of Byakuya’s stories involving a bee that
stabbed its stinger into a gravestone to convey the voice of the dead
Senkuu is still baffled by the
message, but Gen helps him realize that it has to do with the wordplay of the
story’s number and speaker being something modern that only Senkuu or the like
would recognize
They go to the graveyard, Senkuu picking
up the stone and telling the others it’s not a gravestone in itself, somewhat
odd they’d only bring those in particular. He deduces it’s actually a time
capsule, something immersed in concrete to preserve it.
Kohaku, better suited to precision
strikes, cracks it open and Senkuu washes off the aluminum covering it to
reveal a disc of sorts
He and Gen realize it’s a record,
the chapter ending as the group thinks about how science has let them hear what
is likely the voices of Byakuya and the others from thousands of years ago
We Can’t Study 63
Yuiga, not doing well in his
physical education classes, is told by his teacher Takizawa he should take
supplemental lessons to make up for it so it won’t affect his recommendation
Uruka and the swim club are getting
ready to start when they see Yuiga in one of the lanes practicing his swimming
technique.
Yuiga is mortified at this, but when
he tries to swim even with a kickboard, he fails. Takizawa asks for help from
the swim club, all of them suggesting Uruka, knowing her crush on him
Takizawa is reminded by Mafuyu that
she has to submit an application, the phys. ed teacher telling Mafuyu that she
should take care of things here, even though she’s a world history teacher
Mafuyu’s aura is intimidating, but
Uruka isn’t scared, since none of her classes overlap with Kirisu-sensei’s
Uruka tries to teach Yuiga, but she
goes straight into swimming without teaching him any technique. Mafuyu notices
this, going into the pool, asking Yuiga if he’s afraid of the water.
He admits he is slightly, Mafuyu
saying that such fear makes you stiffen up. She offers her hands, saying that
she’ll keep him safe from his fears of sinking, which lets him manage to swim 5
meters.
Mafuyu hands over things to Uruka,
who continues with the lesson
Afterwards, in the shower, Uruka
notes that Mafuyu was Rizu and Fumino’s former tutor.
But suddenly, she sees that Mafuyu
is in the next stall as she asks for Uruka’s shampoo.
Uruka notices Mafuyu’s muscles,
asking if she did some kind of sport in the past, which Mafuyu confirms.
After she asks if Mafuyu ever got
nervous, the teacher discerns that Uruka herself is nervous. She admits that
the upcoming nationals are making her really concerned, since she wants to
impress her juniors and do her best for the team, telling herself to calm down
as a way to help her nerves
Mafuyu says such a method won’t
work, that the tension and nerves are what motivate someone, and that being in
such a stage is something you won’t always get to have. She tells her to savor
such moments as she leaves
The next day, Yuiga is still hurting
from the lessons, but he, Rizu and Fumino are shocked when they see Uruka
acting friendly with Mafuyu, even complimenting her body (though it’s not
explicitly stated that it’s the sports aspect, so it seems perverted in a way),
the chapter ending with the trio confused.
Fire Force 127
As Benimaru and Joker square off
against the Shadows of the Holy Sun, the Captain of the 7th wonders why Joker
tells him to not fight the captain
The assassins rush towards them,
Benimaru knocking their attacks away, dodging and striking in return. He
realizes they intend to kill him, though he only wants to fight.
As he continues to push them back,
even breaking one of their arms, Shinmon wonders if they’re that focused on
killing, not even caring about their own lives
Meanwhile, Joker faces the captain,
dodging his first strike and taunting him, saying he’s no different from when
he left Joker to die.
Joker unleashes his flame cards, the
captain’s sword turning into more of a whip sword, the segments absorbing the
flames and turning them back on him.
We see that Joker can dodge the
attacks somewhat, but the movements of the blade makes it so that he can’t see
all the attacks from wind currents that channel flames through the captain’s
2nd Generation powers
Joker is caught off guard by a blast
of flame below him, wrapped in the sword whip and seemingly slashed by even
more fire along with the blades
The Holy Sun Shadow captain mocks
Joker, claiming he will keep up his attacks, asking if Joker is willing to give
up on his game.
Joker licks the ground and suddenly
punches the captain, knocking his mask off in the process.
The chapter ends as Joker says that
this isn’t a game; that this is a fight to the death and he won’t give up that
easily
Black Clover 157
The people at Asta’s village of Hage
are confused at what they’ve seen in the distance, especially once the flying
dungeon gets near the giant Demon King skull
A Magic Knight, whose hometown was
nearby, speaks to the villagers, who he perceives as having weak magic. He
insists that they don’t discriminate, that elves kill humans equally, as lesser
beings
Asta’s group, having recovered
thanks to Nozelle’s magic item, fly over Hage, which Asta and Yuno recognize as
being in danger
Nozelle says they should prioritize
the Royal Capital, Asta and Yuno insisting otherwise. He says they should
follow them afterwards, seen as important combat assets
Noelle wants to stay behind, but
Nozelle reminds him of their family at the Royal Capital, the Black Bull
reluctantly deciding to stay with her brother
In Hage, we see the elf, using a
Poisonous Plant Magic, comparing it to a method of eliminating humans as an
excessive plant growth
Sister Lily tries her best to fight
against them, saying that even if the people in the Forsaken Realm are seen as
the lowest trash by the nobles, they still have lives and they still deserve
recognition
But the elf says that is why he will
eliminate humans, since they serve no real purpose, struggling against fate and
their betters
Nash, the oldest orphan there now
that Asta and Yuno left, moves to protect Lily
But Asta and Yuno save him before
he’s hurt, the chapter ending as they prepare to defend their village
One Piece 905
We start at New Marineford, where Sakazuki
is furious that Fujitora is at Mariejois, though some of his subordinates say
that Fujitora made a compelling argument that the Holy Land is not actually a
Marine base.
Shifting over the Red Port, which
leads to the Holy Land Mariejois where Reverie will be held, we see various
royalty from across the land, including the Ryugu Kingdom, people entranced by
Shirahoshi’s beauty. The Goa Kingdom’s ruler, Sterry, who was Sabo’s adopted
brother, is arrogant and shocked at how Garp, who was guarding the Ryugu
Kingdom to their destination, treats him with little respect, though Sterry
seems unfamiliar with a lot of the world, thinking King Neptune is a Giant
The first group gets on the Bondola,
a elevator made of bubbles, Shirahoshi and the other Fishmen amazed when they
see the sun and the sky above them, more beautiful than anything they’d
witnessed in the ocean, wanting to live here as equals with people if possible,
since Ryugu Kingdom has only attended Reverie one other time even though they
were considered a part of the World Government for 2 centuries.
At Mariejois, we see Fujitora and
Ryokugyuu talking about things, such as how Dr. Vegapunk has made something
that will render the 7 Warlords superfluous. We also learn how tough Ryokugyuu
is, saying he hasn’t eaten for 3 years, finding it boring.
We briefly hear about how the plan
of the Revolutionary Army is not to topple the World Government but take down
the Celestial Dragons that control them
Back at Mariejois, the bubble
elevator continues to go up, Sterry still freaking out at everything, including
crows that could pop the bubbles
One of the guards assures Sterry
that it’s fine and the chapter ends as we see it’s actually Sabo in disguise.
My Hero Academia 184
Shortly after the cultural festival,
Deku is shocked to learn from Aizawa that Yuuei is now in charge of taking care
of Eri
Since she can’t be in the hospital
forever and her closest blood relative is likely unable to recover, U.A. is the
safest place, especially since her horn as grown just a bit
Aizawa will keep an eye on her, the
others encouraged to check in as well. He leaves Eri with the third years and
tells 1-A to get back to their dorms, since they have visitors
Tokoyami sneezes, Kaminari joking
that someone must be talking about him and that he has a fan like Momo was
revealed briefly to have had last chapter.
Iida tells everyone to pay attention
as the Pussycats come back, wanting to celebrate Ragdoll returning to the team,
albeit in a support position.
All For One is still imprisoned and
they’re trying to figure out all the Quirks he’s stockpiled, the only solution
to keep him utterly restrained
Mandalay says that the Pussycats
were 411th on the JP Hero Billboard Chart, an indicator of the popularity of
the Hero team in Japan. The Pussycats were formerly 31st, but the fact that
they’re even in the triple digits makes them think they need to get back in
active duty
We shift to the debut of the JP Hero
Billboard, Ryukyu down to 10th from 9th and Yoroimusha, formerly 3rd, now down
to 9th. We learn of others, Edgeshot now #4, Hawks, a fairly unknown Hero at
this point now at #2 and supposedly where Tokoyami interned. Best Jeanist is #3
and the chapter concludes as we see that Endeavor as expected is at #1
Seven Deadly Sins 267-268
In order to escape Estarossa’s grasp, Elizabeth
blasts him with Ark. She sees where he’s brought her, the remains of Heaven’s
Theatre. It was abandoned for a while, so she and Meliodas met there in secret
Meanwhile, King, Sariel and Tarmiel are readying
themselves to leave, Howzer and the others prepared to continue and fight the
Demon Clan.
But Derriere surprises them by saying she’s coming
as well, Sariel not believing her. King, remembering when he went to the past
with Diane, says he trusts her, since Elizabeth was willing to save her and
Monspiet 3000 years ago, the Demon shocked that he knew that.
The group heads off as we shift back to Elizabeth
and Estarossa
Elizabeth says she remembers a bit about Meliodas’
youngest brother, seen as a disappointment, but he grew attached to Elizabeth,
even as he realized she was only interested in Meliodas
The Goddess begs Estarossa for help to stop
Meliodas, the Demon saying that her kindness is wasted. He remembers how Meliodas
supposedly told him he’d work out something when he confided in his brother
about his feelings for Elizabeth
Elizabeth says he must be mistaken, but Estarossa
starts to be overwhelmed by the Commandments, Elizabeth unable to stop him as
he moves to consume her, not wanting Meliodas to have the Goddess.
Shifting over to Camelot, Zeldris and Cusack observe
Meliodas in a cocoon, absorbing the Commandments’ powers slowly but
effectively.
The chapter ends as Elizabeth seems to call out to
Meliodas
We start the next chapter in Purgatory, Ban
struggling to maintain himself, initially in a shadowy form like a humanoid
worlf. But when he comes back to a human state, he’s aged and injured, his
immortality barely keeping him alive with how the realm affects a body
Ban presses on, still singing as a way to keep
himself focused, looking for Meliodas’ emotions, though he seems to also be
talking to himself, the pressure making him crazy
He falls into a chasm, recovering after his body is
broken, but then he’s stepped on by a shadowy dinosaur, like a Brontosaurus.
Ban manages to push him up, but is knocked away, a fight starting
Ban persists, managing to subdue the beast,
slightly, though it’s more like it’s become attached to him like a pet.
The Fox’s Sin remembers that he’s looking for
Meliodas’ emotions, the chapter ending as he hears the voice of his captain and
sees his form, unconscious
