Dr. Stone 29

Senkuu and Chrome get to work making a kiln, insulating it with obsidian and making a hollow iron rod to blow the glass

But it turns out they're not very good, all their creations misshapen. Senkuu notes it took him months to make decent earthenware, Chrome and Kohaku saying they don't have that kind of time.  Senkuu suggests they could find a craftsman, Chrome reminded of someone.

He brings Kaseki, one of the older people in the village, who says he won't cooperate since he was bound by ropes and forced there. Senkuu compliments his craftsmanship, both of Kohaku's shield that was made for her father Kokuyo when he became chief and the suspension bridge into the village.

Kaseki is astounded when he sees the failed glasswork, never having witnessed something like this before.

Senkuu and Chrome show the process off, intentionally doing it badly to provoke Kaseki. He breaks out of his bindings, revealing he's quite muscular

Kaseki shows off his skill, making the glassware with ease, Senkuu commenting that this shows the sheer difference of his 50 years of experience contrasted with them

The group then builds a house with Kaseki's help, dubbing it the lab for their chemistry experiments.

Senkuu then reminds everyone of the various "attractions" the Kingdom of Science has, from the generator to the kiln and other things.

Back with Kinrou and Ginrou, the younger brother suggests that Kinrou have a gold spear to help focus his vision. The two agree in spite of the fighting they had before.

Senkuu thinks they have to get raw materials, so he agrees to make a silver spear, though he warns Ginrou that it'll be dangerous as the chapter ends

We Can’t Study 32

Correction, the cram school student that is revealed last chapter to be working at the maid café Yuiga’s in was Asumi. Apparently either there was a typo in Viz’s version that was out then or I misread her name. Makes sense in hindsight with her maid café alias being Ashumi

Yuiga learns from the other maids that Asumi’s working at the maid café to pay for cram school and tuition for med school and is the most popular maid there She even chastises the guys from before for bringing in Yuiga even though he didn’t have money, who apologize to her, calling Asumi anego, indicating that she’s respected.

Asumi explains that the pay’s good, which is the primary reason why she works, but she can also study in her downtime.

As Yuiga leaves, he accidentally knocks over Asumi’s study sheets, finding that her physics and biology scores are especially bad, on Rizu or Fumino’s levels in their respective bad subjects.

Asumi tries to brush it off by saying he must want to laugh at her for having such bad scores in those subjects when she wants to get into med school. But Yuiga instead offers to help her, Asumi impressed with how well he explains things, suggesting he could be a teacher, which Yuiga never considered.

The next day, Asumi is shocked to see Yuiga at the maid cafe, the employees offering him a chance to tutor her and stay there for free as a tradeoff for helping their major attraction to do well in her studies. Asumi is resistant, but a few days later, she continues to allow Yuiga to teach her, the others impressed.

Yuiga’s heading home and bumps into a man. As he apologizes, Asumi appears, bringing Yuiga his train-pass that he forgot at the café. The man recognizes the textbook Yuiga has and s stunned to see Asumi dressed in her maid outfit, revealed to be her father

Asumi’s father runs an independent clinic, but still asks why Asumi is wearing that outfit, thinking she might be involved in something seedy.

She tries to pass it off as pandering to Yuiga’s tastes as her boyfriend, Asumi’s father asking him what he likes about his daughter

Yuiga says he admires Asumi’s hard work to try and get into med school, her father confused at this, since he thinks she doesn’t have the aptitude for it. But Asumi says she wants to continue the family business.

Yuiga chimes in, saying that he believes in her and thinks she should be given a chance to prove herself in this difficult challenge that she still wants to try. Asumi’s father is impressed, even saying he can call him dad.

As the two leave, Asumi jokes with Yuiga that maybe they should kiss, since they’re boyfriend and girlfriend now. She genuinely thanks him for his help as they part ways.

The next day, Yuiga is studying with Rizu, Uruka and Fumino at a restaurant and Asumi is also there. They greet each other, the other girls noticing her, calling Asumi cute, irritating her as the chapter ends with Yuiga mistakenly calling her Ashumi senpai.

Black Clover 127

Asta and Finral recognize Langris' magic as having some resemblance to the Demon Clan magic Fana and Vett used in the past battles.

But Finral insists that Langris is still his brother and that he'll stop him. Langris says that it's too late for him to act like an older brother, both of them unleashing the same cluster of spatial magic, a massive blast resulting from the collision.

As the dust settles, we see that Finral took the brunt of the damage, holes pierced in his body.

Leo and Jamon are shocked as it's revealed that their crystal was destroyed, Langris' team winning.

As Langris stands over Finral's defeated body, he mocks him, remembering how people observed how Finral was much kinder, Langris stunned as Finral still offered to spend time with him as a child.

Langris moves to kill Finral with his spatial magic, but is stopped by Asta, Luck and Magna, even Charmy manifesting her magic to defend him.

The Wizard King steps in, saying he's not willing to trust someone if they'd kill their comrades. Asta and the others echo this sentiment, Langris offended that the Black Bulls would talk like this to him, the Vice  Captain of the Golden Dawn.

Langris then swiftly attacks Asta, who narrowly slashes the spatial magic away with his sword. The Wizard King, in spite of the risk it poses, says he'll let the battle continue. Klaus and Yuno note that something's off for Langris to be so violent

The chapter ends as we see the two square off, both expressing how they didn't like the other from their first meeting.

Boku no Hero Academia 154

Deku assesses the situation, Nighteye protecting Eri and Mirio, Aizawa and Chrono nowhere to be seen.

Chisaki’s wounds from before are healed, the yakuza boss commenting that his head feels clearer than ever after “cleansing” himself. He mocks Lemillion for losing his Quirk and dragging his allies into this fight rather than just losing so only Eri and him would have to suffer.

Deku moves to stop Chisaki, though he can barely keep up, narrowly avoiding his foot getting stabbed by the earth spikes created because of his iron soles.

Nighteye throws one of his hypermass seals, saying he’ll take Chisaki on, telling Deku to protect Eri and Mirio.

The plan was for Aizawa to erase Chisaki’s Quirk, but Aizawa warns Deku not to do anything rash that would leave him immobile.

Aizawa’s disappearance is brought up by Nighteye, Chisaki revealing that he’s having his subordinates take him for study. Nighteye wonders if Chisaki really was afraid of Mirio’s Quirk, thinking that Chisaki must’ve meant that his bullets were finished when he talked about Mirio losing his Quirk. Chisaki admits this, though he intended to get away and keep that a secret.

Chisaki breaks down some of his extra arms to try and attack, but Nighteye dodges, noting that Mirio was able to face him because of his own teachings about accumulating experience to allow one to predict and act accordingly in a fight, proud of his student for coming this far.

Deku takes Mirio and Eri, opening up the path outside, telling them to get some distance between them and Chisaki.

Meanwhile, Nighteye is revealed to have seen his future and, like All Might’s death, as much as he tried to fight against the future, it was like fate, Chisaki managing to get the advantage, impaling Nighteye in a few places, his defeat inevitable

Deku returns, manifesting more of One For All’s power, now up to 20%, even if it’s pushing his limits slightly.

Chisaki says they should give up, that they will all die here, but Deku says he’ll twist that future as the chapter ends.

One Piece 880

Pudding calms everyone's worries about Chiffon, saying Bege was the primary one at fault, making it so it appears Chiffon was threatened into doing this by her sister by handcuffing her

Chocolat Town has 31 of the best chefs here, though people are more concerned about Pudding's wedding being ruined. She says not to worry, that she'll save this country, which inspires them

Pudding tells everyone in town to not come into the Sweets Factory while they're making the cake, since they need to be really focused

Each of the chefs enters in individually, Pudding altering their memories so they're not surprised by Sanji's appearance

Sanji, meanwhile, has sketched a rough design of the wedding cake from memory, even noting some of its ingredients from the fragrance, to Chiffon's amazement

Pudding starts the cooking, flustered for a moment as Sanji compliments her chef's outfit.

She's altered the chef's memories so that they think Sanji and Pudding got married, but the cake was destroyed by weather, so they have to remake it.

Sanji's plans are impressive to even the chefs, having discerned secrets only Streusen seemingly knew.

Pudding is again embarrassed as a chef points out that this will be her and Sanji's first project as a married couple.

Sanji has everyone work to get ingredients, Chiffon and Pudding focused on their tasks. They only have around 3 hours to get the cake to Big Mom, having to decorate on the way to the Thousand Sunny.

Everyone's working their hardest, each motivated by connected ideas; Chiffon to pay back Lola's saviors, Sanji to save his crewmates and Pudding to help Sanji and the others escape

Back in the Mirror World, Brulee awakens after Katakuri confirms the situation with Perospero

Brulee's subordinates have found other mirrors into the Thousand Sunny, Katakuri telling them to burn down the ship

Luffy tries to attack again, nearly hitting Mascarpone and Joscarpone, both Snake Neck tribe members like Amande.

But Katakuri keeps pushing Luffy back, saying he should focus on the fight in front of him

Luffy grabs a shard of the mirror he broke before, trying to get in contact with Nami. He tells them to break the other mirrors on the ship in spite of it isolating him

Fires have already started as flaming arrows fired by Mascarpone and Joscarpone come in through the mirror in the men's bathroom

But things are even worse, the chapter ending as we see that Big Mom has made a Homie of a giant wave bearing down on the Thousand Sunny

Magi 364

David is confused at what’s happening in the Sacred Palace, Sinbad saying it’s going to disappear soon, comparing it to a magic tool that’s been overused by their constant switching of the hierarchy of gods, a spell of immense power they’ve both been using this whole time.

In spite of the fact that it will kill him and David’s fake body along with the Sacred Palace’s destruction, Sinbad thinks there’s no other way to stop the magic that returns everyone to the rukh.

David demands to know why Sinbad is going against the destiny he seemingly acknowledged about returning the word to the rukh. The King of the Seven Seas responds that he was too invested in his dream and didn’t see the reality, that the Sacred Palace wasn’t all powerful like he thought.

Sinbad even says that he and David are the same in that their dreams consumed them, their obsession blinding them to what was actually the case. Living as destiny wills was his goal, David agreeing and claiming that as singularities, that was their true purpose.

But Sinbad argues that even they don’t live truly by their own will, also influenced by others as much as everyone else. Even David was fixated on the idea of being a singularity that someone else coined as a term. Sinbad claims David wasn’t thinking purely about what he wanted, but what others expected of him being a singularity.

Instead, Sinbad says they need to think for themselves and remain cautious so as to not be swept away by delusions like they have.

David retorts that such a thing is far crueler than the destiny they would enforce as god-like beings, but Sinbad says it’s better that they are free, the Sacred Palace starting to fade away

Alibaba and the others note that the rukh’s rewriting has been erased, Phenex’s rings no longer needed to stabilize the minds of Kougyoku and the others.

But the black spot continues to mobilize, David saying that the magic to return everything to the rukh has reached the final stage and it cannot be stopped.

We see that across the world, the black tentacles have started to reach and bring forth massive towers, resembling the dungeons as David claims the truth of the world is going backwards.

The chapter ends as Alibaba is worried about how they can save the rest of the world as we see Morgiana, freed from the rukh rewriting, knocking away one of the angels to defend her area, saying she can fight too.

Seven Deadly Sins 236

Cusack and Chandler bicker between each other about their loyalty to the Demon Clan clashing or aligning with their own biases. Cusack is willing to serve Zeldris, but Chandler feels that Meliodas was unfairly accused, shifting the blame entirely on Elizabeth

When Zeldris reveals the mission is to rescue Meliodas, Chandler drops his cane in surprise. Cusack wonders if the Demon King is being too lenient, Zeldris commenting that he doesn’t understand his father’s motivation here.

Chandler is happy, hinting he might have been Meliodas’ caretaker as well as his master (Cusack being Zeldris’ teacher) when he was younger, referring to him as young master.

The group decides to wait for Meliodas and the others to arrive, but Chandler rushes to where Meliodas is, seemingly so protective of him that he’s willing to rush ahead.

Zeldris tells Cusack it’ll be fine, though Cusack still objects to the Demon King wanting to make Meliodas his successor, thinking Zeldris is far superior.

Estarossa speaks, having regained consciousness from being healed by the chamber he’s resting in, saying that they’re too cruel to leave him out of this conversation. But he also comments that the Demon King is equally sadistic to have his son come back after Estarossa went to the trouble of killing him before.

He agrees with Zeldris that he must rest some more to be fully healed and fight at complete strength.

Cusack thinks to himself that he’s never gotten along with Estarossa, but is also genuinely afraid of him, not only because of his strength rivaling Zeldris’, but also how inexplicable his thoughts and feelings are, similar to Meliodas

We shift back to the Seven Deadly Sins, King giving Diane and Gowther charms, one made from the remains of Helbram’s helmet, the other putting the magical heart from Gowther’s creator on a necklace. Gowther is confused at the gesture, still not understanding the emotion behind it. But he still acknowledges that in spite of his logical side regarding it as something superfluous that won’t bring Nadia back, he still feels a deep happiness in remembering the good times they had.

Suddenly, the sky turns dark, Merlin saying someone is engulfing the area with their magic.

Chandler appears out of nowhere in front of the Perfect Cube, Hawk shocked at him moving so fast.

The Demon speaks to Meliodas, saying he’ll save him from Elizabeth with a jovial smile on his face. The visage twists into a more monstrous appearance as he tells Elizabeth he will kill her for tempting Meliodas as the chapter ends

WSR 9-18-17

Disclaimer: These aren’t official translations, merely scanlations. Buy localized or original manga to support the author if at all possible. Know the difference between piracy/theft and sharing without personal profit.

My Hero Academia is on an unexpected break this week.

Magi is slated to be ending in roughly 4 chapters (we’re behind a bit in fan scans, unfortunately). But I will cover it to the end, which will likely be official in Japan sometime in October.

Dr. Stone 28

Kohaku tries to stop Senkuu after revealing Suika’s face, though we see that she’s surprisingly cute. But suddenly her face squishes into something more unpleasant to everyone’s shock.

She explains that she can only see well when she wears the melon mask, her vision normally blurry, so she has to squint like that. Senkuu says the mask helps her by using the pinhole effect, where the vision’s scope being narrowed makes it work better in a way

Chrome wonders if there’s a connection between this and glass, Senkuu explaining to Suika that she’s nearsighted and that they can make glasses with science.

Suika is grateful, wanting to see the world truly as it is, not blurry as she’s experienced it for years.

The first step in the process is finding silica sand, the group following Chrome as he shows them a place where he found a transparent rock. They scrape off the pieces and grind it into a fine powder. They just need lead, already having calcium carbonate and seaweed for the other portions.

They combine the materials together to make the crystal like glass needed to make lenses for Suika. Senkuu has put together a rough tool, using the corundum that Chrome has to whittle down the lenses and cut them, since glass’s hardness is a 6, while corundum is still a 9. Meanwhile, Kohaku leaves, not able to follow the conversation and wanting to train Kinrou and Ginrou.

After going through the process, Senkuu fits the lenses in Suika’s melon mask, letting her see all the things around her, like sunflowers in a field, Chalk the dog and even Senkuu and Chrome, Suika tearing up at how happy she is

Kohaku’s training with Kinrou and Ginrou continues, Kohaku noting that Kinrou needs to have a sense of distance when using his spear. Ginrou talks to Kinrou afterwards, revealing that his vision is blurry as well, Kinrou telling him not to reveal this to anyone.

The chapter ends as Suika notes Chrome and Senkuu are both surprisingly good looking, which Chrome takes offense at. Senkuu says now they can move on to more chemistry and have helped Suika join their workforce.

We Can’t Study 31

Yuiga, focused on exams more than fun in the summer, is delighted at an offer from the headmaster to go to a summer cram school.

He’s nervous as he waits for class to start, another student asking to get by him to her seat. She looks young enough to be in middle school, though Yuiga observes that she’s slightly taller than Rizu.

The pace of the class is exceptionally fast, Yuiga barely able to keep up. The girl next to him, Asui Kominami, shows a great knowledge of the material and even offers Yuiga her notes when the teacher moves onto the next section.

Yuiga thanks Kominami afterwards, impressed that someone so young has such abilities for note-taking and the like.

But Asui notes his uniform, explaining that she’s actually a graduate from there and thus is actually his senior at 19. Yuiga is stunned, since she looks young enough to be middle school age.

He brings up that she’s a rounin, someone who failed their entrance exams and is taking an extra year to try again, though she tells him never to mention that word again. Kominami emphasizes that she’s here to learn, not to socialize and that he should treat her with respect as his senpai.

As they study through lunch, Yuiga notices Kominami’s not eating, offering her some of his food in exchange for sharing her notes before.

Yuiga’s overwhelmed at how cram school works, Kominami saying that this is just meant to supplement your own studies, not something you should take lightly at all. She even notes that it was something she failed to realize, which is why she’s taking another year for exams.

Her wisdom impresses Yuiga, still thinking she might’ve been a middle-schooler, which irritates Asui.

As cram school ends for the day, Kominami has left early to Yuiga’s surprise.

But he finds himself lost in the area, pulled into a maid cafe by some thuggish looking guys. He tries to leave after realizing they charge for even being there, but is stopped by a guy at the door to pay the 1000 yen seating fee (roughly $11).

The chapter ends as one of the maids comes in, introducing herself as Ashumi the Pixie Maid. Yuiga and her recognize each other, Kominami revealed as working at the maid café as the chapter ends.

Black Clover 126

We see how Finral was seen as a failure in the past, Langris viewed in a much more positive light by his noble family.

They introduce the brothers to Finesse, a girl with a weak constitution, but a strong magic lineage, who is to be the fiancée of the next head of the Vaude family. Langris thinks she’s plain, but Finral compliments her beauty in spite of Finesse feeling sad that she’s so much older than the two of them.

Finesse tells Finral that she sees him as stronger than his brother because of how kind he is, Langris overhearing the conversation, thinking there’s no way he can lose to his older brother in anything

In the present, Finral’s group finds Langris, who moves to destroy their crystal. But Finral, having tested it with Cobb’s spatial magic, is able to counter Langris’ attack.

Jamon and Leopold are sent to where the crystal is after Jamon finds it with his Glass Magic.

But they find themselves trapped by the Snow Magic user’s field magic that slowly numbs their senses.

Leopold, using the training for Mana Skin from before, manages to resist it and unleash a blast of fire that the Snow Mage narrowly dodges.

Meanwhile, Langris is pushing Finral back, the Black Bull deciding to use a new technique, a simple ball of spatial magic.

Sekke thinks it’s so plain, but narrowly dodges as it homes in on him. The Bronze mage tries to use his defensive magic, but it ignores this, teleporting him away to where Yami is on the toilet.

Finral titles his magic Fallen Angel’s Flapping Wings, saying that even though he can’t use offense type magic, he still will win this match by using it on Langris.

Langris, pushed to use his grimoire now, unleashes a hail of spatial distortions around him, the chapter ending as he says he won’t stand for his brother looking down on him, that he won’t lose here.

One Piece 879

The Straw Hats weep at Pedro’s death, but Jinbe tells them that they should not falter now. Brook protests that he’s being overly cold about this, but Jinbe counters that they would’ve died at the coast had the Mink not intervened, his sacrifice a victory for them.

He further notes that this invasion of theirs has made the enemy unbalanced in a way, though they must remain vigilant and believe in Luffy’s plan to fight Katakuri, the Thousand Sunny still in danger until they escape Big Mom’s territory.

Chopper and the others agree, Nami guiding their course while Jinbe watches the current.

Carrot sees the ships and Big Mom seemingly walking on the ocean, though it’s actually a Candy Sea Slug made by Perospero that she’s walking over.

Perospero notes he can remake his arm with candy, but it’ll still melt with enough heat from even a teacup in the afternoon. He says he has to make the Straw Harts suffer for what Pedro did to him.

We shift over to the western coast, Zeus and Prometheus confused after Big Mom left them behind.

Sanji’s group is flying towards Cacao Island, Pound sighting Chiffon in the distance, calling out to her, though she doesn’t seem to hear.

We learn that Lola was the former Minister of Chocolate, the seat left open, though Pudding was recommended to join. She refused, thinking that her sister might one day return.

Pudding is hiding in Rabian, wrapped up slightly. She says she doesn’t want to be next to Sanji, since people might mistake them for being married, still insisting that she doesn’t like Sanji, though internally, she’s touched that he’s worried about her falling from Rabian.

As they head to Cacao Island to make the cake, we shift back to inside the Mirror World.

Luffy is assaulting Katakuri who seemingly imitates Luffy’s Gum Gum Hawk Gatling and makes it even stronger. The Mochi Man even says that anything Luffy does he can do faster and stronger, Mochi seemingly superior to Rubber in the Devil Fruit hierarchy.

Unleashing a Hawk Stomp, Luffy tries to quickly move behind Katakuri and attack, but his Observation Haki sees it coming, Katakuri punching him away

Luffy then goes for the Elephant Gun, Katakuri making his own that’s even bigger. He wins the clash, knocking Luffy into the wall as the chapter ends with him telling Luffy to give up.

Magi 363

Kougyoku and the others find they haven’t fired their Extreme Magic, turning to see that Kouen used Phenex’s power to calm them, saying they’re pathetic to follow the Rukh’s rewriting.

Hakuryuu reveals that they gave Metal Vessels from the International HQ to certain people in case they needed backup to fight Sinbad.

Kouen was one, since he had been infused with part of Hakuryuu’s black rukh after he substituted his own legs for Hakuryuu’s after he lost them fighting Alibaba. And Hakuei, because she had been altered for Arba’s possible reincarnation, is also ready to fight alongside her brother in Djinn Equip.

The group fights back against the angels of death, ready to defend the people from returning to the rukh

Kouen is furious at the people being puppets to Sinbad’s mind control from rewriting the rukh as we see him fight, even rushing to confront Koumei.

It seems that Kouen was the one who distributed the other Metal Vessels, using Phenex to temporarily negate the rukh rewriting from Kougyoku and the others.

Alibaba's more confident now that he has newfound allies in this fight

Alibaba notes that the black mass of the Great Rift is David’s true body, so they need to help Aladdin by attacking David from the outside. The group combines their efforts with full strength, allied together now in this fight.

The chapter concludes as Ugo understands that Sinbad was rewriting the hierarchy of gods itself so that he can use the magoi in the Sacred Palace to defeat David in another way, David’s body seemingly splitting in two to his shock

Seven Deadly Sins 235

Zeldris is still resistant to the idea of saving Meliodas, but the Demon King says he won’t hear any objections. The only threat to the Demon Clan in his approximation is the Seven Deadly Sins, who are trying to remove the curse on Elizabeth, the Supreme Goddess’ daughter. He tells Zeldris to kill the other Sins after rescuing his brother

The Commandment of Piety sends a message to the other Ten Commandments, but finds none of them are responding. We see that Galan is still petrified, Greyroad and Merascylla are captured by Merlin and Fraudrin has been defeated by Meliodas.

Derriere and Monspiet managed to survive after Meliodas blasted them with Full Counter, living with a human who helped them to recover. They don’t seem interested in really helping Zeldris now, preferring to live a simple existence. Thinking back to when Meliodas and Elizabeth spared their lives 3000 years ago after they underwent the Indra transformation, it occurs to them maybe they were forgiven and treated with kindness to show them a better way

Even Gloxinia and Dolor reveal they’ve defected to Zeldris, who removes the curse seal from their bodies, reverting them to normal.

Zeldris comments that with Estarossa in a coma, there’s only himself as a Ten Commandment.  He thinks he’ll be enough, wanting to show that he’s the one worthy of becoming the Demon king instead of Meliodas

Suddenly, two other Demons appear, Cusack and Chandler, who are loyal to Zeldris, offering their assistance after having broken out of the Goddess Seal.

The chapter concludes as Zeldris accepts their help, Cusack noting to Chandler that it’ll be like old times, Cusack as Zeldris’ former master and Chandler having some connection to Meliodas, left unsaid as we end things here.
