Dr. Stone 55

As Senkuu, Chrome and Magma prepare to start their expedition into the caves, Magma seems to be plotting an idea to take out the two scientists, though Gen appears to be aware of this or has his own plan, starting to talk to the villagers as Senkuu leaves.

Chrome expresses his concern about Magma betraying them, but Senkuu responds that this is really their only option to advance the plan to make the cellphone

Senkuu stops them before they hit a patch of mica, which is so brittle, it’ll collapse under them and they’d have no way out

Magma tries to take this opportunity to knock them down, but his portion of the floor collapses instead

Senkuu grabs him, though Chrome says it’s clear Magma tried to sabotage the mission to get rid of them

Magma admits this, saying he resents how weaklings like them amassed power in the village when he thinks he should be the one in charge, the law of the stone world that the strong are at the top

The two fall as the floor collapses, Magma sulking at the situation, though Senkuu’s taking measurements, thinking they need to do something

Chrome pours water into the hole onto Magma’s head, Senkuu revealing that if they pour enough in, they can swim out to freedom, though Magma doesn’t believe the plan will work

Senkuu says that they have to try, putting together a plan to use the tubes from the gas masks to pour in the water, explaining this to Chrome

Senkuu also emphasizes to Magma that this isn’t about the weaklings dominating the strong or vice versa, it’s division of labor, both parts benefiting each other

Magma thinks that Senkuu’s already shown him amazing things and that maybe he can trust him a bit

The hole is filling up, but Senkuu is on the verge of hypothermia, Magma pushing him up as he tells Senkuu that he has to stay alive so they can beat Tsukasa with the amazing things Senkuu will make with science

Senkuu is pushed out of the hole as the chapter ends with him saying he’s confident Magma won’t get bored

We Can’t Study 59

Fumino and Rizu talk briefly about the typhoon, Rizu saying she had difficulty with delivering udon, since the winds were so strong they blew away the box she carried it in.

But they stop as they see Uruka and Yuiga talking, Fumino thinking it might be a confession.

It turns out they’re practicing English, flashing back to earlier when Yuiga tells Uruka that she’s made good progress with vocabulary, but needs to do verbal practice. Uruka is confident, saying she’s practiced with her mom, Yuiga surprised at this.

They start a mock interview, but Uruka doesn’t do well, switching between broken English and Japanese as she tries to explain that she likes to swim and cook.

Yuiga suggests they speak English the rest of the day so Uruka doesn’t freeze up and focus so much on speaking English in a forced way, but does so more naturally.

Uruka is happy to do that, thinking they’ll spend the day together, even saying that whoever speaks Japanese first treats the other to steamed buns as a sort of contest.

The day continues as we move to the present, Uruka still nervous.

But when a dog rubs up against her leg, Uruka becomes more relaxed, Yuiga engaging in English with her and commenting how she’s much better now

Uruka mishears this, thinking he’s talking about her underwear. She calls him a pervert, Yuiga insisting he’s not. But when he tries to think of a reason he’s not, his mind goes to the embarrassing moments they’ve had, giving up the contest.

This makes Uruka happy, though Yuiga says she technically spoke Japanese when she expressed her excitement at victory, but still gets the buns for them

As Uruka’s waiting outside, 2 foreigners ask her for directions to the station, which she gives them. But after that, they start to hit on her, asking her to accompany them to a BBQ.

She starts to panic, but Yuiga steps in to help. The pair ask Yuiga what his relationship is with Uruka, Yuiga planning to say she is his study friend, but he misspeaks and says she is his steady, which Uruka recognizes the meaning of being lovers

The two leave, Yuiga not fully understanding what they said afterwards. But when he turns to talk to Uruka, she does some stretches and then runs away, too embarrassed to keep talking to Yuiga

The chapter ends as Uruka’s English has reverted to being okay, though Yuiga is confused as to why Uruka is not only still speaking broken English, but is talking about how her notebook is white, a simple phrase for her interview.

Dr. Stone 54

Chrome reiterates the usefulness of electricity and batteries for them to explore the caves, doing so by torchlight far less effective.

He’s excited to explore the caves and gather ores and minerals for Senkuu, but he’s disappointed when Senkuu says they don’t really need to search for anything in regards to the cell phone plan, having everything they need already.

Senkuu does say they’ll need a lot of copper for his next project, Chrome enthusiastic and ready to do it, going on his own

Kaseki asks what the next project will be, Senkuu revealing that it’s electricity’s gear, the precursor to the computer, the vacuum tube

Senkuu explains how the vacuum tube is like a gear for electricity, letting them control and enhance the flow of electrons, the heart of the cell phone

They move to start making the vacuum tube, but the first experiment cracks the glass. The phosphorus used the burn the oxygen out of the glass bulb for a vacuum expanded the metal wires slightly, meaning they need a precise method for making this

Chrome comes back with copper, Senkuu using it to make a copper tube so that the wires will expand in a way that won’t damage the glass.

However, they come up against a new problem with the bamboo filament, which burns out in the vacuum tube

Suika wants to help, Senkuu thinking it’s hopeless, since the material they’d need doesn’t exist naturally and he can’t make it as easily as other things.

New Year’s Day is arriving, Gen trying to inspire Senkuu and encourage him by saying they should look at the sunset.

Suika, having found an oddly heavy rock that seemed normal at first, has actually found scheelite, a rare occurrence naturally that has tungsten, which can be used as a filament against the intense heat. It was only found because of the ultraviolet rays that are emitted right before sunset, turning the crystal blue

The chapter ends as the final member of the team is said to be Magma, Senkuu thinking they’ll need his strength to carry the heavy material from the caverns.

We Can’t Study 58

A typhoon is projected to enter the Kanto area, classes cancelled for Yuiga’s school. He thinks he’ll use the time he has to prepare lessons for Rizu, Fumino and Uruka, but happens to bump into Fumino.

As the two head home, the storm starts to pick up, Fumino deciding to go to a nearby restaurant. She offers to treat Yuiga to a parfait, but an employee tells them they’re closing the store for the day. Every other restaurant they go to is in the same situation, having to eat instant noodles in front of a convenience store.

Fumino’s angry, since she wanted to eat a lot of things during the typhoon. She and Yuiga exchange their ramen, Yuiga thinking this is like an indirect kiss.

But it starts to rain, the two trying to get home. Yuiga asks Fumino why she’s been acting so weird, Fumino revealing she doesn’t really want to go home, since her dad is there.

Yuiga says they should head home, though he also notes that they’re sharing an umbrella, another romantic trope he’s aware of.

The umbrella is broken by the wind, the two rushing to a nearby cinema to get out of the rain. Fumino’s happy, since they have it all to themselves, and they’re showing an old movie, though she wonders if Yuiga will be okay, since it’s scary

The movie is indeed frightening with zombies and such, but Fumino is unaffected.

As the lights go out suddenly, the two try to talk about something else, Yuiga quizzing Fumino on math formulae, which she does well at. He also asks about her father, though she says she can’t really tell him, since she thinks he wouldn’t believe it

The two bring up how all these awkward things happened today, from the restaurants to the umbrella breaking to the power outage in the theatre. Yuiga comments that it’s like they’re on a date, Fumino shocked and embarrassed at the thought.

Afterwards, the storm has died down, Fumino much happier now, Yuiga satisfied even though he’s still confused.

The chapter ends as Fumino’s friends approach her a few days later, saying that she would enjoy a French or a Japanese restaurant for a date, but Fumino says she’d be fine with cup noodles from a convenience store, to their bewilderment

Black Clover 152

But as he moves to finish her off, the Crimson Lioness manifests her Mana Zone at full power, unleashing her ultimate magic, Calidus Brachium: Purgatory, enveloping her opponents in a mass of flames

As the smoke settles, we see that the elves have managed to survive, but are nonetheless intimidated by how much power their opponent had still, even still standing after her attack, unconscious from the effort

But she manages to regain consciousness, saying they still haven’t finished her off.

The 5 elves combine their magic to make an Elemental Quintet, releasing it at Mereoleona.

However, Zora activates a trap, he and Asta rushing in to help their captain

We see that Asta managed to convince Zora that they should help Mereoleona, not wanting to let her just make that decision without consulting them about what they wanted.

Asta brings up Zora’s technique of reflecting magic back at twice the power, which Zora utilizes. But Zora also says that they can’t hope to win just by doubling the impact, Asta then suggesting that he attack Asta with it, who then knocks it back with his magic destruction sword to quadruple the power as Zora attempts to reflect it back a second time

But the magic circle weakens with so much power, Asta having to rush in and knock it at their enemies with his own strength.

The chapter ends as the group is blasted again with their own power x4 as Asta and Zora get Mereoleona and run.

Wadatsumi lets the Straw Hat ship free, telling them they need to escape.

We see the Sun Pirates deciding that they need to let Jinbe and the Straw Hats get away, willing to sacrifice themselves as a shield for his sake

Jinbe tells Luffy, as they’re trying to repair the ship and escape, that he needs to stay with his former crew to serve as the rearguard for their departure from Totland

Luffy agrees, saying that he is Jinbe’s captain and he’ll expect the Fishman to return to Wano and meet back up with his crew then.

Jinbe adjusts the sea currents again, preventing Big Mom’s fleet from pursuing and letting Nami steer the ship away as fast as possible

The chapter ends as Morgans tells Stussy that this turn of events is the best, since he thinks Luffy, being of the Worst Generation, is one of the likely candidates to become the next Pirate King.

Boku no Hero Academia 179

The Cultural Festival begins as Deku and Gentle’s fight escalates, the Gentle Criminal shocked that this trump card hasn’t succeeded.

Deku persists, Gentle unable to fully counter him, La Brava thinking her love isn’t enough

Gentle thinks to himself that La Brava’s wrong, that they can’t give up now. He remembers how his dream has been to be recognized and inspire others in the future with his message of change.

Unwilling to give up, he uses Gently Sandwich, a layer of air barriers crushing Deku under them, unable to move.

But Deku manages to dig his way free, saying that Gentle shouldn’t trample on the feelings of everyone else.

Gentle retorts that such an attitude is how one achieves their dreams, focusing only on that and not on pleasing others.

We flashback to Gentle’s past, in his 2nd year of high school and still not able to gain his provisional Hero license as his advisor says he should leave the school

Later he tries to help in saving someone who’s falling from a building, but he just makes things worse, expelled from school and drifting through life as a freeter, not able to hold onto a full time job

But he encounters Takeshita, a promising student in his class that’s already gone independent as a Hero. His fellow student doesn’t recognize him, pushing Gentle to his life of crime and seeking recognition by the public in his own way

In the present, Gentle is still persisting, even if he’s unwilling to normally use violence, says that he’ll keep fighting.

As he says that Deku should laugh at him if he feels like it, the two clash, Deku saying he’s not laughing at his opponent’s passion, seemingly acknowledging him in a way as the chapter ends

Elizabeth is shocked that Derriere is here, but Deathpierce seeks vengeance for Denzel’s death by the Demon’s hands, rushing at her, even though she doesn’t have any intent to fight

The sword breaks on her flesh, Elizabeth asking what’s happened. Derriere explains that she came here after she sensed Elizabeth’s magic, saying that Monspiet saved her from Estarossa

But the Commandment of Love appears, pursuing Derriere, but happy to have also found Elizabeth in the process.

He moves to blast away the bystanders with Black Hound, the summoned monster blasting through the troops and cutting off Elizabeth and Derriere

Estarossa approaches them, saying that he’ll take Derriere’s Commandment, impressed that Elizabeth was able to escape Meliodas.

Elizabeth asks if he’s collecting the Commandments for his older brother, but before he can answer, she surrounds him with Ark and throws him away

He breaks free, saying that Elizabeth’s resistance just makes him want her all the more

Sariel and Tarmiel approach Estarossa, who taunts them by bringing up Mael’s death by his hands, the two attacking. They claim they each have the power of 2 Commandments, confident they can easily beat Estarossa

But Estarossa breaks through their assault, slashing them with Hellfire and surrounding them with it. He mocks them, saying they couldn’t even use their Graces, Tornado and Ocean

The chapter ends as the 2 break free, their forms changed now as they say that if Estarossa wants to see it so bad, they’ll show it to him.
