Disclaimer: Scanlations and official sources both have a place in the community, but buy official manga volumes to support the author. If you can, also subscribe to Crunchyroll and/or Shonen Jump through Viz Media to read chapters nearly simultaneous with Japan. Most of the series covered can be found through legal means, so please encourage the industry that gives us what we love

Obon break in the middle of August, but otherwise normal schedule so far. You can read a one shot by Promised Neverland’s artist and writer, Posuka Demizu and Kaiu Shirai, Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono

New series from Jump+ added to the Viz vault: Kaiju No. 8 by Naoya Matsumoto. In a world where kaiju threaten Japan, there’s a group of people that eliminate them. And our lead, Kafka Hibino, works in processing the bodies afterwards (realistic). But one day, he’s infected by a kaiju, transforming into a human sized “kaiju” hybrid, able to retain his human form with some effort, now trying to get into the Neutralization Corps

There are new series coming out through August and into September, including Burn the Witch, previously a one shot by Kubo Tite, set for a 4 chapter run (oddly short, but it also has an anime film planned late this year or early 2021). It appears to continue the story from where the first chapter, not quite a pilot, ended, Balgo the dragonclad regarded as a threat by Wing Bind, Noel and Ninny still seeking to get into Sabres, one of the several divisions (like Soul Society) in the organization.

Act Age, due to controversy related to the writer (not the artist), was abruptly cancelled and Mitama Security Spirit Busters’ last chapter came out as well, opening things up more. Bone Collection also concluded, only 15 chapters versus the 37. And even Time Paradox Ghost Writer concluded at less than that at 14 chapters

World Trigger 198-199

Nasu Squad squeezes out a win against Suwa and Katori, the match relying on split decisions and unexpected surprises, like Katori using Spider to pin down Suwa squad, but Suwa’s Tsutsumi taking out Katori in return.

Afterwards Nasu Squad bids farewell to Hiura, who nominates Izuho to replace her in the squad, which she accepts provisionally. And Yuba Squad has a goodbye party for Kanda, Obishima encouraged to get stronger

Dr. Stone 160-163

Senkuu is injured, but recovering, the wounds minor from the fragments. But using the Uesugi Cipher, the main group sends a message to Chrome’s group, joined by Ukyo, Hyoga, Suika and Tsukasa, that Chrome needs to take over as the scientist. And the plan is to dig into Xeno’s hideout to capture him and get out.

Chrome puts together a plan while the others allow Gen to buy some time by suggesting Senkuu’s group has more than one petrification device when Ukyo shoots one at their base. And we learn Chrome’s plan is a drill, intending to create a tunnel

Taiju is sent to transport the materials for Chrome’s drill and he meets up with Luna’s two admirers, Carlos coming along with him (since Taiju just thinks it’ll be simpler to take him instead of having the “enemy” track him). Carlos is impressed at the skills involved and Chrome begins the drilling proper after Hyoga’s spear technique helped initially dig through weaker dirt.

Luna, helping Senkuu, asks him to be her boyfriend (smitten with his capable nature), while Carlos, learning that Luna is “dating” Senkuu, decides to draw out the castle plans so the group can infiltrate. Dr. Xeno’s weapon made by Dr. Brody is complete and the conflict begins as the aircraft carrier is also complete, the two science kingdoms finally moving to fight.

We Never Learn 168-171

Fumino’s route wraps up with an awkward date that has interruptions while she and Nariyuki are trying to connect more after 4 months of being a couple. Nariyuki kisses her at a festival, the two thinking things will be okay

Asumi’s arc begins many years after graduation, Yuiga starting a job on a remote island to the south, where Asumi is working in residency under her mother. And more coincidences build up, the two neighbors at an old apartment complex, where Yuiga shows he can help Asumi with her surgical stitching.

As Asumi improves with stitching, Yuiga is assigned to be the health coordinator, after helping a student who had a mild cold. Yuiga then helps Asumi deal with giving the kids shots, especially the younger ones, knowing that she genuinely does enjoy helping people and just needs a way to start bonding with them

Yuiga and Asumi are supervising the kids at the beach, when Taichi, jealous of Yuiga being close with Asumi, tries to make Yuiga look uncool. This ends up getting classmate Nao, roped along with the plan, and Asumi injured, Yuiga assuring Taichi that he will help them, which turns Taichi around to his teacher being cool.

My Hero Academia 279-282

Class 1-A and 1-B combine efforts to get Gigantomachia ready to have the sedative thrown into his mouth, the Metahuman Liberation Army trying to fight back with their members on his back.

Mina almost gets the dose into Gigantomachia, but his resurgence and her traumatic memory of him nearly attacking her in the past makes her choke. Kirishima saves her and then climbs up Gigantomachia, throwing his dose in after Mina’s is broken by Himiko. Meanwhile, Tomura is struggling against Endeavor, but his criticism of Hero society still stands

Shigaraki pushes forward, the Heroes struggling to stop him, Gran torino in particular remembering how Shigaraki’s father was left by Nana to keep him safe, the idea of Hero society being corrupt and broken making more sense in a way. But Shigaraki then throws the anti Quirk dart he managed to get before, seemingly targeting Aizawa

Deku manages to hold back Shigaraki, but even with utilizing more of One For All’s power, Shigaraki hits Aizawa with the Deleter round. Eraserhead, in desperation, cuts off his leg, having heard from Ryukyu about Shigaraki’s intent a few moments before. With Aizawa blinking, however, Shigaraki can utilize All For One briefly, only stopped by Shoto's intervention. Elsewhere, we learn that Gigantomachia is still running rampant and is likely to cause massive damage in a line of cities in his path

Fire Force 227-231

Benimaru clashes with Hibachi, remembering how he succeeded his father in a different way and as the fight affects even the ocean, Benimaru says he’ll try something new to defeat his father’s doppelganger

Shinmon, seemingly encouraged by the cheers of the 7th Division, is motivated to tell Hibachi that he wants him to be proud of his son. After their massive clash that starts to cut into the sea, it seems Shinmon is finally ready to finish off Hibachi and stop the threat

Hibachi is defeated, Shinmon utilizing a combination of Nichirin and Akatsuki and inspired by the other Asakusa hikeshi/firefighters. In spite of Hibachi saying he’s a fool, Shinmon and Konrou agree that the former leader approved of his adoptive son and truly has passed on the torch

As everyone discusses the nature of Adolla, possibly a manifestation of human perception and thought (very abstract stuff), we see Sho and Arrow go to get the Kusakabe family records and Sho is shocked to find his father isn’t listed.

Sho investigates further and seems to get closer to a realization that his mother may have not had intercourse to conceive him or his brother, making their background even more mysterious than before. And since the Church of the Holy Sol was also involved, the conspiracy aspect is more emphasized now.

One Piece 986-988

Luffy and Yamato burst in to save Momonosuke, who mustered up the courage to admit he is Oden’s son even with Kaidou’s offer to spare him if he abandoned his connection to the former shogun. And the others arrive as well to face off against Kaidou and Big Mom’s combined forces

The major conflict begins, the Akazaya Nine going up against Kaidou while Luffy appears to be fighting Big Mom and the supporting forces occupying the combined crews of the Yonkou

Big Mom is attacked by Franky and Brook, saving Nami when Zeus is turned against her by Charlotte, while Sanji fights King and Yamato helps Shinobu get Momonosuke to safety

Black Clover 259-262

Asta’s devil power will only last 50 seconds and at the last moment, he manages to imbue Yami’s katana with the antimagic after his other swords were knocked away, knocking Dante unconscious finally

As it seems like things are going well, Zenon appears, thwarting everyone’s efforts to rescue Yami from his clutches and he escapes, Asta unable to even gain more power, having reached his limit with the devil for contracts

As everyone recovers, Owen commenting that Gray’s magic may not be transformation but something more advanced (transmutation maybe?), Asta wakes up, Yami’s katana seemingly bonded with his grimoire as an antimagic weapon. But Asta is stopped by a mysterious hooded figure, revealed to be Nacht, the Black Bull’s vice captain, who also has a devil, offering to train Asta to get stronger and save Yami.

Nacht takes Asta with him, who needs to rest before he gets more training. And the Black Bulls’ Vice Captain appears with Asta in tow at the Magic Knight Brigade Captain meeting, where things are getting heated as to what should be done regarding the threat from the Spade Kingdom.
