We Never Learn is delayed,
hopefully will be caught up by next week
Dr. Stone 13
We see Senkuu break out of stone, 6
months or so before Taiju broke out, making sure to preserve the scene of his
depetrification as best he could
As he’s burying the fragments after
making an outline of how he was laying, he’s approached by some monkeys who are
scared off by his naked body, Senkuu thinking it’s likely been a while since
they’ve seen a human
Senkuu remembers the seconds he
counted, making rough calculations because of variables with the earth’s
rotation and such, starting things off from a new era.
The monkeys approach again, Senkuu
confident he will bring back civilization as he starts to try and spark a flame
by spinning a stick.
But it fails, Senkuu thinking that
Taiju or Yuzuriha could manage it with their skill sets.
He moves to try and make a knife,
pounding rocks in particular patterns to chip away at the cheri rock that’s
especially hard. He makes stone tools to then cut down plants that he can turn
into a rope. All the while, the monkeys watch him like he’s weird.
Afterwards, he combines the string
with the stick and the tinder he’s found to succeed in making fire, his
scientific experimentation and persistence paying off
He then tries to hunt a deer,
failing at first. After laying a trap, he succeeds and uses its hide to make
his survival clothes that we see him wearing when he first meets Taiju.
The chapter ends as we see him,
proclaiming himself to be a human to the monkeys from before, the pinnacle of
evolution and scientific thinking to advance the world.
Black Clover 112
Julius signals the start of the
Royal Knights’ Selection Exam, but we shift back to a few moments earlier.
Zachs Rugner, the vice captain of the
Purple Orcas, is having an altercation with someone, who is apparently blocking
his way.
But the person doesn’t recognize
him, thinking that he’s just using his position to lord over people they
disagree with, regarding the Magic Knights as little more than a gang of
bullies to those under them.
That insult of the Magic Knights
makes Zachs attack him with his Ice Magic, but he’s defeated in an instant off
panel, smashed against a wall as the unnamed attacker says that Zachs doesn’t
deserve to wear the robe of a Magic Knight, taking it from him
Someone at the Royal Knights’ Exam
is especially excited, but Mimosa tells him to lower his magic power output or
he’ll bother the others.
Bystanders note that she and Klaus
have gotten stronger, Mimosa even learning attack magic and Klaus doing muscle
training, likely after their poor performance in the dungeon a few months back.
Yuno and other Golden Dawn members are also pinned to be contenders in this
exam.
Asta approaches Mimosa and Klaus,
Mimosa nervous around her apparent crush and Klaus confident that he won’t lose
this time, Asta ready to compete. He tells Yuno he won’t lose this time, Yuno
thinking he needs to be prepared if he fails. Leopold chimes in, all three of
them fired up for competition now.
We see Finral, who’s changed his
hairstyle in preparation for the exam, Magna and Luck not recognizing him at
first, but Asta saying he’s the genuine article, just wanting to be more of a
lady’s man, the others agreeing.
Noelle sees one of her brothers,
Solid, initially panicking. But Leona’s words of encouragement at the hot
springs make her think she’s not going to be afraid and show her family that
she’s gotten stronger.
The Wizard King appears, the Clover
King explaining that the Royal Knights’ Selection Exam will be a team based
crystal breaking tournament
The rules are simple even for Asta:
the teams protect their own area’s crystal and try to destroy the crystals in
other areas
The purpose is to determine strategic
thinking alongside cooperation and strength of using magic, the Royal Knights
expected to be the best in pursuit of defeating the Eye of the Midnight Sun
We see the teams generated by magic,
Asta teamed up with Mimosa and Zachs Rugner.
Asta doesn’t know who Zachs is,
Mimosa just flustered at being in the same team as Asta.
The chapter concludes as we see the mysterious
figure from before, passing himself off as Zachs Rugner and introducing himself
to Asta
Boku no Hero Academia 140
We see Amajiki’s past, still shy and
unsure of himself as a transfer student around 3rd grade, but approached by
Mirio who wants to make friends.
In the present, Kirishima and Fatgum
think Amajiki shouldn’t fight on his own.
The police recognize one of the Cleansing
Salvo members as Setsuno, saying they can’t use bullets against them.
Aizawa stops the Quirk from
activating, another of the Salvo pulling out a gun. Fatgum moves to shield the
others, his body able to take attacks like swords or guns. The Salvo thinks
that doesn’t matter, since they don’t value their own lives, just sacrifices
for Chisaki.
But Suneater takes all three of them
down as he notes their Quirks: Setsuno’s Larceny, Hojo’s Crystallization and
Tabe’s Meal. He’s wary of guns after getting shot once, saying that he can
handle this. Amajiki insists that they need to have the pro Hero Quirks for
later down the line and they can’t afford to be held back as a group for this
mission, since time is of the essence.
Eraserhead leaves Amajiki with the
Villains’ Quirks negated for him to immobilize them.
Amajiki tells the others to take
care of Mirio, since he thinks he’ll do something reckless.
Kirishima and Rock-Lock wonder if it
was okay to leave Suneater behind, Fatgum saying that Amajiki’s only weakness is
his own self confidence, his Quirk abilities top notch.
Amajiki notes that Irinaka hasn’t
tried to use his Mimicry to cut him off, probably focused on the police above.
Instead, he has to take out these three here, moving to strike them all with
his tentacles.
But Setsuno blocks his attacks,
noting that Suneater pulled back in fear at the last second, his tentacle
damaged by a hidden blade in Setsuno’s mask. Hojo breaks out, Setsuno’s Quirk
allowing him to take anything off of someone’s person, one of Suneater’s husks
of clam in his case.
Hojo and Setsuno explain that they
were taken in by Chisaki, recycled like the trash they viewed themselves as,
failures in normal society and that they can’t let him down, moving to take out
Amajiki.
We see Suneater still failing to
believe in himself in the past, not able to use his Quirk during training
sessions. Mirio persists in spite of his failures, Amajiki telling him that he
admires such determination. But Mirio thinks that Amajiki can become a great
Hero as well. He’s able to push forward because he admires how his friend doesn’t
give up in spite of his nerves and pressure to perform, wanting to surpass him
as well.
Amajiki thinks that Mirio might’ve
been overvaluing him, but remembers how his friend continued to encourage him,
even saying he can outshine the sun, giving him his Hero name, Suneater.
The chapter ends as we see Suneater
has renewed confidence, ready to fight again with full power.
One Piece 867
Big Mom breaks Jorle’s sword (Viz’s
translation felt more accurate with the Norse theme) and then throws him down
with her monstrous strength.
Carmel asks if they can make the
semla, one of the giants telling her the food storage is at risk of burning up
with the fires caused by the fighting.
She then uses what appears to be the
Soul Soul Fruit’s powers to make a Homie from the flames and allow the giants
to give Linlin the semla, which calms her down.
But Jarle moves to kill her, saying
that Jorle is too old to be saved by medical attention, but must die as a
warrior.
Carmel asks him to have mercy,
saying she’ll take Linlin and leave, exiled from Elbaf. Jarle agrees, in spite
of Hajrudin’s protests about the pride of the giants.
Linlin is confused that Jorle died
unexpectedly, not knowing she was the one to kill him
The Sheep’s House children and
Carmel left, a new house made by giants as a last thanks to Carmel’s kindness.
Things slowly returned to normal after a time
But it turns out that Carmel has been
selling off the children to the World Government, either as Marines or Cipher
Pol members, a deal she had made 37 years ago. She wants to retire with a
massive payment for Linlin, seen as a potential Admiral or Fleet Admiral in the
Marines with her power.
Mother Carmel maintains her façade,
a birthday celebration held for Linlin, with a croquembouche, a pile of semla
But soon after, Linlin comes back
from her ecstasy of eating with everyone she cares about, all the Sheep’s Head children
and Mother Carmel gone, seemingly eaten by Big Mom in her euphoria of
celebration, as we see tatters of Carmel’s clothes, even the logs bitten into
The chapter concludes as we return
to the present, Big Mom shrieking about where Mother Carmel went to.
Nice explanation of where the Soul
Soul Fruit was, though I disagree with the idea that Carmel being cannibalized
is what gave Big Mom the Devil Fruit powers, since this was 63 years ago. There’s
plenty of time for Big Mom to have found the fruit in the interim rather than
the power passing to her through eating a Devil Fruit user.
Magi 349
Alibaba’s plan to break down the structures of the gods, those that divide the world into dimensions and the rukh into black and white, intrigues Sinbad, who thought the only solution was to decide who could become the new God of the Sacred Palace.
But Ugo intrudes, saying it’s
impossible to do what Alibaba wants with such little magoi, since he had
thought of this in the past. Ill Illah’s magoi was only enough to cross one
dimension: to unite all dimensions would require returning the entire world of
Solomon and Ugo’s creation to the rukh
Alibaba asks if Ugo’s okay with
Solomon’s world being destroyed, since Ugo did it through Solomon’s wishes. Ugo
is divided, asking Aladdin what he should do, since his consciousness is hazy
due to David’s magic.
Aladdin says Ugo’s more confused
than anything, Sinbad also noting that Ugo’s intelligence is far beyond theirs.
Ugo says that even if they broke the
vertical and horizontal planes of this world there are worlds beyond that
they’d be invading into without any thought of the consequences there.
Arba’s frustrated at Ugo saying such
a thing after what he did to Ill Illah with Solomon.
Alibaba thinks that maybe Ill Illah
wasn’t truly evil, since he hasn’t really directly talked to him.
Aladdin conjectures that maybe
Solomon scattered destiny as he did because it would be better to separate from
gods than fight them in order to gain freedom.
But Alibaba counters that they can’t
have true independence with the threat of another hole opening in the ceiling
as what happened in Magnostadt.
Aladdin asks how long they’d have to
keep doing this, seemingly an endless battle.
But Arba and Ugo note that Ill Illah
is such an entity that they can’t just ignore its ability to change destiny on
a whim, Ugo agreeing that they need to break the vertical walls.
There are three major perspectives
clashing: Arba thinking that they can’t just invade the worlds of these other
gods, that she’d fight against that; Ugo saying they need to destroy the
vertical walls to take control of their own destiny and Aladdin suggesting they
instead strengthen their walls to be separate from those gods and their control
Sinbad watches them, thinking this
can’t come to a satisfactory end.
Aladdin still insists they can’t
invade other worlds for their own selfish reasons, Arba even suggesting that
everyone but Ill Illah should be destroyed in a more extreme solution and Ugo
can’t seem to think, asking Solomon for help.
Sinbad intervenes, saying that they
should consider asking the other worlds about this, comparing it to discussing
borders with countries. Aladdin and Arba want something like isolationism, while
Ugo and Alibaba want something closer to an invasion, breaking down those
borders.
The idea that these other
“countries” aren’t that different from their own makes Alibaba think they could
form an alliance, engaging with the other worlds and managing the borders
afterwards.
Alibaba and the others wonder why
Sinbad changed his mind, the aspiring god thinking he was ignorant to make such
an extreme statement, suggesting something that can accommodate everyone as
best he could.
Sinbad thinks of how Alibaba
commented that together, everyone can make something even better than
individuals can on their own.
The chapter ends as Sinbad remembers
how he has interacted with so many people and constantly changed, his
perspective now adjusted again to change destiny for the better as he did in
the past.
Seven Deadly Sins 219
We see the renovations to the Boar’s
Hat Inn in the first 2 pages, improving stability and allowing Diane to stand
on top of the roof to shout promotions.
Ban and Meliodas rush to choose the
best room, flipping a coin to determine who gets it.
Meanwhile, Diane and Elizabeth go to
meet Elaine, failing to hide from her ability to read the heart. She observes
how Elizabeth’s anxiety was clear, even if she could suppress her thoughts and Diane
was only thinking of King.
Elaine is stable thanks to a charm
and Elizabeth’s magic, but still feels a bit off.
Diane explains how she and King went
to Britannia 3000 years in the past and met Meliodas and Elizabeth’s
doppelganger, Elizabeth shocked at this revelation
We shift over to King, Gowther and
Escanor at the bar, King trying to open up more to Gowther, saying he still
hasn’t forgiven him for everything, but that he wants to try being friends.
After King falls unconscious from
the alcohol, Gowther searches his mind with Invasion, seeing that King still
hates Gowther, but the doll wants to work harder so that everyone will accept
him.
Gowther and Escanor take King out of
the bar, King knocking Escanor’s glasses off, which makes him transform into
his muscled form. Gowther quickly puts the glasses back on, which calms him
down.
King’s a bit beaten up, but
otherwise fine as the three leave, Griamore and Hauser more than a bit
frightened at their power.
Merlin is scrying for the magic
power of something called the “royal vessel”, with the help of a small familiar
called Orlondi, the same vampire that was killed by Ban 12 years ago, only his
eyeball recovered by Merlin.
But Zeldris finds Orlondi, blasting
him with Hellfire. However, it seems that Merlin took the brunt of the attack,
the floating eyeball fine while Merlin has been burned, narrowly avoiding
death.
The chapter ends as she asks where
Arthur is, likely the “royal vessel” referred to by Orlondi Camelot seemingly
taken over by the Ten Commandments.
Fairy Tail 537
Zeref tells Mavis that Natsu was foolish to not
finish him off, since he’ll just regenerate his damage.
Mavis says that she should want him to be erased,
not wanting to forgive him for making her guild suffer.
But she acknowledges that he did indeed love her,
his curse causing her to die. However, since Zeref didn’t die, she thinks that
she must not have loved him back, since she had the same curse.
Zeref notes that she may have never loved him,
merely passionate in her admiration. Mavis counters that it was because of
Zeref that Fairy Tail came to be. But he also caused such suffering, so she
can’t fully say that she loves him, this dissonant mix of emotions making it
impossible for her to complete her plan.
With her curse from Ankhselam, she should be able to
kill Zeref if she values him as he did her, but she cannot bring herself to do
it.
Mavis wants them to stay together, not wanting to
lose him. Zeref realizes that to be loved was how he could truly die, Mavis
weeping in her anguish at both hating and loving Zeref.
She rages at him, saying she wants him to die, but
is unable to deny her true feelings and that valuing of his life activating the
curse. Zeref slowly disappears, thanking Mavis. He wants her to survive, but
that activates the curse, both of them disappearing.
The power of love is such that it even overcomes
this immortality, the warmth something Zeref hasn’t felt in a long time.
The fight seems to be over, and Makarov awakens,
seemingly revived by the power of Mavis and Zeref’s love and their sacrifice.
The chapter ends as we see Mavis and Zeref walking
into a field of flowers, seemingly passed on.
People are understandably angry at this chapter,
particularly with Makarov coming back, but I’m pretty sure it’s been a while
since Makarov died (roughly 6-7 months), so it’s not as if this is something
that just tries to undo consequences rapidly, which is a problem in Hiro
Mashima’s writing with Fairy Tail. And it’s also not as if there wasn’t a loss
here, since Zeref and Mavis were both important to Fairy Tail and their deaths
are something that can’t be taken back so easily.
