Seems like Tokyo Ghoul Re will always be somewhat behind, but that’s okay. And this week will be the conclusion of Naruto in my coverage: hope you enjoyed it. I only really covered from the part starting with Kakashi and Obito’s fight in the Kamui, so I was definitely coming in late for that, but I think we’ll all miss it

 Tokyo Ghoul Re 4

The person reporting to Torso at the end of last chapter tells him that he’s been eating too much, that CCG is looking for him. They exchange what looks like a flash drive for her information to Torso, the girl mentioning the existence of the Quinckes squad as he drives her to an unspecified location. She warns him that one of them may have an enhanced sense of smell from acquiring Ghoul powers.

Chie provides Urie and Shirazu with more information as we flashback from them briefly reporting to Akira about their progress in investigating Torso’s attacks. The picture she gives (in exchange for Sasaki’s underwear) is of a victim, found near the scene of the crime by her, meaning Torso is also using a camera; more specifically, one that takes instant pictures.

Chie explains that there are two major companies who make these models and the ones made by Immortal take more faded ones compared to Muji, which is her model. They figure that Torso used this type of camera, having to buy it from a specialty shop, which narrows down who they’re searching for significantly.

Back in the present, Urie and Shirazu get some spare Quinque from Akira, who explains their origin through a collaboration between the chiefs of the German and Japanese Commissions of Counter Ghoul, CCG, one technically the former head from a few decades ago. She says that even though they have Kagune as Quinckes, they shouldn’t neglect training with their Quinque.

Before this, CCG used guns, but eventually, research created the primary anti Ghoul weapon. But technology has advanced even further more recently with the Quinckes, who have the advantage of a Kagune that doesn’t mutate with consumption as a normal Ghoul’s would and also gain something more effective than a Quinque, which has a limited type of form because of the nature of RC cells in a real Ghoul.

Akira warns them not to become overconfident, since they aren’t as strong as a real Ghoul and should develop proper skills with a Quinque to counteract that.

Meanwhile, Sasaki and Mutsuki are interviewing someone who knew one of the victims. They start to find a common theme: the women tend to have scars from surgeries or the like. Sasaki speculates that Torso can either sense that they have scars or just happens to find some that do. He leaves everything but the torso (I thought the arms were involved, but this makes more sense with his codename). They figure out there is a connection between where Torso hunts and the hospitals that perform plastic surgeries on the victims with scars.

Mutsuki is near one such hospital, Sasaki suggesting they split up to investigate (but warning his partner not to go alone if they find someone) finding a taxi about to pick up a woman. He notices the look in the driver’s eyes, taking the taxi in place of the woman. As they make small talk, the driver suddenly stops and grabs Mutsuki’s throat, asking which he is before he begins to feast. He rips Mutsuki’s shirt, revealing a woman’s chest, the chapter ending as Torso says that it’s good that Mutsuki’s a girl.

Seven Deadly Sins 101-102

People are starting to rebuild, trying to get as much done before the National Foundation Festival the next day.

Meanwhile, Meliodas is watching over Elizabeth, who’s still recovering. Hawk, especially tiny now that we see the scale (he’s maybe a few inches tall now), asks why Elizabeth didn’t heal herself.

Merlin appears, qualifying that Elizabeth’s powers activated unconsciously. She thinks that Elizabeth’s strong empathy for others prevents her from using her healing on herself, Hawk thinking Elizabeth is too selfless.

Meliodas and Merlin discuss her trying to find the Coffin of Eternal Darkness. She searched her research facility, along with the rest of the capital, but found nothing. People reportedly saw a strange bird creature flying to the east, making Meliodas think something is suspicious.

Merlin tries to change Meliodas’ mood, offering to join the Sins for a while. Meliodas asks her about what happened 10 years ago, Merlin also curious about Hawk, since they are “boar comrades” and she thinks he was very brave, deflecting her captain’s question.

Meliodas goes back, having forgotten something in Elizabeth’s room. Hawk asks Merlin why she can’t heal Elizabeth, Merlin saying only druids have the capacity for healing magic.

Meanwhile, Jericho is brooding, unable to use her powers and feeling indebted to Ban for saving her. She meets Guila, who she voices her jealousy to for retaining her power and the only one to not go berserk of the New Generation. Guila thinks it was the power of love, not specifying who she had the feeling for, Jericho thinking it might be her younger brother, Zeal.

Jericho sees Gowther in Guila’s house and Gowther has a somewhat sinister smile on his face as we change scenes

Margaret meets Merlin, who explains that Elizabeth still needs a lot of rest before she can recover. Meliodas comes out, Elizabeth unexpectedly recovered. Hawk is ecstatic, but confused as to how she got better so quick. Merlin says Meliodas may have had something to do with it. We see Meliodas telling Elizabeth that he cannot live without her, that she should live for him.

The chapter ends as the group moves to help with the rebuilding process.

The next chapter starts with King moping about Diane, since Meliodas and Elizabeth getting along well would make her jealous. He’s also thinking about her feelings and how he might try to get Diane to fall for him. He helps a persona almost struck by a log and is hit by it himself as he remembers that Diane left a while ago and is worried she might not return.

We see Diane, who moves the log from on top of King. It’s revealed she’s actually human sized temporarily from a magic item made by Merlin. For 7 hours per pill, she retains her giant strength, but is also human sized.

King says Diane shouldn’t worry about being human sized or not, she’s still herself. He suggests she ask Meliodas to the festival, but she asks King instead.

Back at the Boar Hat, Hawk is eating furiously. Gilthunder comes in, Hawk not remembering him or what he did to him back in the Forest of White Dreams, suggesting that’s a side effect of his shrinking and resurrection.

Gilthunder enjoys a Bernia Ale (which is interesting considering he originally said it was terrible in an early arc of the series) and tells Meliodas he’s leaving the kingdom after the festival. He feels awful for what he did, even if it was to protect Margaret and trick Hendricksen. Meliodas wonders what Margaret will think, implying she might have deeper feelings for Gil.

Ban also says he’ll be taking some time off after the festival, saying he’s leaving the Sins.

The chapter ends as we see various events, Gowther apparently kissing Guila (which only further hints he might be doing something evil).

With Merlin joining and Ban leaving, it makes me wonder if there’s something going on with Merlin and Gowther, an underhanded plan. And what of Escanor, the final Sin we haven’t met yet?

World Trigger 81

Izuho and Yosuke find Osamu, having picked up Chika’s cube where Osamu told them it was. They take him to the medical center in Border HQ, since it’s closer than a hospital.

Konami is having difficulty handling the Trion soldiers left behind, Satori helping her with his double sniping. Arashiyama squad appears to provide support as well. Kako squad, an A rank group composed of all females, also comes up, saying they’ll handle this group while Konami and Arashiyama squad go elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Jin gets confirmation that Osamu and Chika are accounted for, saying Hyuse should give up.

The Neighbors communicate how the plan played out, Hyrein saying they had to leave Hyuse behind, since he’d become their enemy otherwise. All the factors involving Border, such as Miwa appearing to fight Hyrein and Viza being defeated by Yuma, make Hyrein think someone was setting this up.

They conclude that even if they didn’t get Chika, getting rid of Enedora and Hyuse was part of their initial plans anyway, so it was something of a success.

Border gets reports that trainees are missing, having been kidnapped by the Rabits. The admins are concerned about the bad press and the damage to the city, Jin assuring Kido things are safe now.

The chapter ends as Jin tell Kido that this wasn’t the best outcome, but it could’ve been far worse, about the 3rd or 2nd best out of the futures he saw. We see a record of the deaths and injuries on all sides as the arc completes.

Magi 245

We start (after a break of the manga for a week, apparently), in the Kou Empire’s territory, Judar and Hakuryuu appear, preparing to attack the military base they landed in.

Before this, they managed to find each other after being teleported out of the dungeon, Judar using a plant I believe we saw back when we first met Hakuryuu in Sindria.

Judar asks if they’re going to kill Gyokuen, but Hakuryuu wonders why Judar hasn’t tried to kill the Al Thamen members yet. He responds that they’re especially tough to kill for good with their clones turning into dolls and all (only Ithnan has been defeated soundly out of all the members). Plus, they share info with Gyokuen and exchange rukh around, so it’s like fighting a hive of bees.

Hakuryuu suggests they train their new powers, Judal’s from Magnostadt apparently, out of Al Thamen’s area of coverage, which is why they went to an out of the way place in Kou. Before they resolve this, he takes out two Al Thamen spies nearby with his Djinn Equip.

Hakuryuu tells the soldiers that they’ll serve under him to defeat Gyokuen and Kouen. But many of the soldiers are loyal to him or admire him as a warrior, Judar noting this will make it difficult. The captain of the forces says he thinks Kouen isn’t disloyal, insisting that he helped Hakuryuu’s brothers, but was unable to save them from the fire because he was conquering Phenex’s dungeon. He also appeals to Kouen’s goal of uniting the world, but Hakuryuu simply dominates them with Belial’s powers, explaining them in more detail as he tests it on a snake prior to their invasion.

We see Hakuryuu combining Zagan and Belial’s powers, a rarity with Djinn users, possibly because of Belial’s power aligning with Zagan’s (they both use Life type magic). The soldiers will act normally, but the spies from Al Thamen have a different purpose.

Judar explains that he took the rukh from Matal Mogamett in Magnostadt and gained great knowledge from him, but still has difficulty controlling him.

A week later, Hakuryuu tells Judar that he needs him to learn long range clairvoyance magic, saying that it will be helpful in their mission to overthrow Gyokuen.

The chapter ends as Judar and Hakuryuu are finally discovered, possibly by Hakuei’s troops, though it could be someone else.

Naruto 699-700 (END)

We start with Naruto and Sasuke, still collapsed after their final clash. Kakashi and Sakura find them. Sakura is shocked to see the state her teammates are in, starting to heal them. Sasuke apologizes to her, Sakura crying as she says he should at least do that, ultimately happy that her friends are both alive after this final battle that should’ve killed one of them.

Kakashi is happy to see the team back together, remembering when they first met. Sasuke thinks to himself that he finally understands Naruto’s feeling of being with Sasuke, saying it was like having a brother.

As Sasuke travels around the world, he’s reminded of when they were immature children, seeking out love, but only finding hatred. We see Naruto and Sasuke negating the Infinite Tsukuyomi, everyone freed and Yamato appearing after what feels like hundreds of chapters. We also see the shinobi stuck in the special ninja tools used by Kinkaku and Ginkaku in the war freed from their imprisonment.

Sasuke thinks that through Naruto, he was able to realize the pain of his family and Itachi in particular. He hopes that he can start to understand Naruto more, thanking him for never giving up, even when he should’ve hated Sasuke for all he did.

Kakashi explains to Sasuke that because he helped in saving the world, he’s going to be let off the hook, though provisionally. Sasuke is going to journey the world to see it with his new vision. Sakura wants him to take her along, but he says this is his journey and he’ll return afterwards, Tsunade making him an artificial arm from Hashirama’s cells for when he returns, Naruto getting one immediately..

As Sasuke leaves, Naruto meets him, giving back his ninja headband with the symbol scratched through. The two vow to meet again after Sasuke has settled things. Sasuke thinks to himself that the bond they have is something everyone should strive for, to work and create new ties, even if there are difficulties along the way. The chapter ends with this thought, Sasuke and Naruto parting ways for now.

The next chapter starts with a timeskip (10 years, maybe?) with Shino as an instructor ending class and sending off Naruto’s son, Bolt. We see what has to be Shikamaru’s son telling Bolt not to do his planned prank because the Five Kage Summit is happening in their village, but Bolt says that’s all the more motivation to try.

We also see Chouji and Ino’s children (Chouji got together with Karui from the Lightning Country, and Ino got together with Sai?!) saying they have to train, but Bolt says they should just cancel it to help him.

Elsewhere, Hinata and her daughter with Naruto, Himawari, are putting sunflowers on her uncle’s grave, Himawari hoping he likes them.

Lee and his apprentice (possibly son?) are training, while Tenten is running her store. Shikamaru’s son, Shikadai, comes home, trying to skip out, but he meets Gaara, who stopped by, along with Kankuro.

Kiba is speaking to someone (his wife?), noting that Kakashi stepped down as 7th Hokage.

Shikamaru is late for the meeting of InoShikaCho, Sai calming down Ino, since Shikamaru’s with Kakashi.

Karui, Chouji’s wife, thinks their child, Chouchou. might not need to learn the technique, but Ino insists that since it’s an ancestral tradition, it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Meanwhile, Ino and Sai’s child, Inojin, is the only one there, Shikadai and Chouchou both not interested.

Asuma’s child leaves, going to protect Kakashi at the Kage Summit with Gai.

Gai asks if it’s okay for Kakashi to leave Naruto, but Kakashi says it’s fine, since he wants to entrust things to the new generation. The older Kages are having a get together of their own, Oonoki especially feeble now after the battle.

Killerbee, who managed to survive, is meditating on a waterfall, Gyuuki asking if he wants to hang out with Naruto. Killerbee says Naruto’s busy as Hokage, unlike him, who’s just being idle.

Naruto is in his office, Shikamaru telling him they have to leave. Udon and Moegi report that Bolt has defaced the Hokage memorial.

Naruto catches his son, telling him to clean up his doodles. Konohamaru chastistes Bolt, but Iruka says Bolt’s just trying to get his father’s attention.

Meanwhile, Sasuke and Sakura’s child, Sarada, tells Sakura that she thinks she and Bolt might have some things in common, at least when it comes to their fathers.

The Kage meeting starts as the chapter ends with a reiteration of the basic story: Naruto had the fox spirit of Kurama sealed in him and managed to seal the Ten Tails away.

Pretty good ending overall. Sasuke and Naruto’s rivalry being the major focus and justification for the conclusion works well. Some of the couplings are bizarre, but Kishimoto must’ve had some ideas for these. The only random one is Karui and Chouji, who I don’t even think met in the story.

One Piece 766

Tsuru and the Marines with her are waiting for DOflamingo’s crtew, getting contact from scouts near Minion Island, where Corazon was getting the Ope Ope Fruit. They’re going to investigate carefully, since they don’t want to affect the deal.

Meanwhile, the Barrel Pirates are still looking for the Ope Ope Fruit Corazon stole
Corazon has found Law, offering the Devil Fruit to him. He forces it down Law’s throat as he collapses from his wounds. He’s glad they outwitted Doflamingo and has one last request as Law finds out about his screw up and the injuries that resulted from it. Law tries to stop the bleeding, Corazon saying they just need to hold it off for a bit.

Corazon gives Law a small tube, saying to give it to the Marine ship nearby so they can save Dressrosa. Law gives it to Vergo, who managed to be in the vicinity with the scouts. He begs Vergo to help Corazon, but as the two catch eyes, Corazon realizes that Vergo’s secret mission was infiltrating the Marines for Doflamingo, possibly just to get the Ope Ope Fruit.

Vergo attacks Corazon, realizing he’s a traitor. He also tears up the document Corazon gave to Law, knocking him away as he tries to protect Corazon. Vergo leaves Law and Corazon on the brink of death, reporting to Doflamingo about his brother’s betrayal. Law manages to escape as Doflamingo’s family moves in on the island.

Doflamingo uses Birdcage, the chapter ending as Corazon tells Law they can’t run away now, smiling as he plans to get Law out, since Doflamingo’s also using Parasite strings to control people.

Toriko 300

Toriko and Zebra prepare to take on Goritaurus, Zebra immediately using a new technique, Supersonic Voice Cutter, slicing the giant gorilla in two. As it tries to regenerate, Coco combines Drip Poison with Toriko’s Flying Forks. Even after this damage, Goritaurus reveals a new and stronger body and readies a mouth beam attack.

Toriko tells Denshark to retreat, the train vomiting up something to create an opening to tunnel into. Toriko and the others guard themselves with various armors while Sani uses Satan Hair to attack Goritaurus directly.

But it turns out Satan Hair ate the attack, but only enough to protect the group, everything around them razed. Sani then spits the attack back, the others attacking as well. Zebra uses Fist of the Grim Reaper, which Goritaurus redirects with Enbu. But Sani then redirects it back into Goritaurus with Frypan Return of the Demon King and Satan Attack.

Coco uses Mold Spear, but Goritaurus counterattacks, also making antibodies against the poison in the meantime. Toriko then comes up to Goritaurus, saying it’s nothing like one of the Eight Kings, using Jet Fork to damage it seriously. As Kaka tells Coco to use the Sandoriko, he says it’s unnecessary, since they don’t want to use their trump card this soon. Also, he’s giving it a poison that creates absolute dependency, Devil Poison.

With the battle over, the balance of power has been affected in Area 7. Komatsu is still safe in Denshark, while Monkey King Bambina still doesn’t care about the power shift as the chapter ends.

Bleach 604

Bazz B is getting affected by Juhabach, not understanding what’s happening to him. Renji and Rukia are stunned. Liltotto and Giselle, along with Bazz B, insist they’re not going to die here.

Byakuya notices the light and sees that it’s emanating from Seireitei into the sky.

Shunsui tells Nanao and the 3rd seat Okikiba that he may have to leave Sqaud 1’s barracks for a bit, saying Seireitei isn’t in danger so much as the Soul Palace.

Back at the Soul Palace, Ouetsu has gotten a serious injury, part of his shoulder stabbed away.

Jugram explains Auschwalen (consecration in German): it takes the energy and power from Quincy who are deemed expendable and gives it to those essential to Juhabach, a redistribution power that’s derived from his initial ability to give power to others.

Those who have power taken from them are killed, while those who receive the power become even stronger and come back from the dead.

It turns out that the X Axis managed to shoot Ouetsu with his power, enhanced now from before: more specifically, it’s the full extent of his powers. He then says it’s not bullets, firing another shot at Ouetsu. Kirio and Tenjirou try to block it, but it manages to pierce through both of their weapons.

X Axis explains his power is the ability to pierce anything between the horizontal axis of his gun and the target, Ouetsu damaged with a hole in his chest.

Pernidas, the Compulsory, uses their power to break a hole in the tree cage created by Hikifune, Juhabach moving to attack Ichibei. The chapter ends as he says Juhabach shouldn’t say his name so casually, that his voice might go hoarse.

Fairy Tail 407

Fairy Tail’s members are confused at what Lumen Histoire is, Makarov telling them to get to the guild’s basement, the only thing left after the majority of the guild was blown up by the Lacryma bomb Elfman brought in a while ago.

Elfman wants to stay behind, feeling guilty about causing the guild’s destruction, even if he also acknowledges it wasn’t his fault.

Makarov tells Doranbolt he needs him to help the guild, especially since he has to wipe the memories of everyone in the guild once they’ve used Lumen Histoire, because it’s so special to the guild’s survival. This especially includes Doranbolt, since his teleportation magic might be useful for the plan.

Igneel and Acnologia continue their fight, Igneel drawing Acnologia into the sky so he can go all out, Acnologia saying he won’t fight, but outright destroy the Fire Dragon.

Marde Guile tries to contact Kyouka and tell her to start Face, but she’s busy fighting Erza (this is still roughly 20 minutes or so before Face activates), telling her that it is the destiny of Zeref’s demons to return to their master.

Sting asks why they want to use Face, Marde Guile explaining that it’s release the seal on the Book of END and unleash his power as the strongest of Zeref’s demons. This will allow them to return to Zeref. Rogue thinks it’s silly, since they could do it without this elaborate plan, but Marde explains that they have a subconscious instinct imbedded in them by Zeref to return to him as their master.

The intent of this programming, making the demons desire to go back to their master, is supposedly because Zeref desires to die, unable to because of the nature of his special existence. The demons were created to be strong enough to kill him. They tried to bring the book to a place with intense magical power, but it didn’t work. The only solution left was to eliminate all magic in the continent. With that, they will kill Zeref, fulfilling both of their desires: the demons because of an innate draw to their master, Zeref because he desires to stop living.

As Sting says they’re involving humanity in this, Marde Guile says they’re just weeds in the way of their path to be pulled out. The Dragon Slayers are slapped away by the vines of the Prison Flower, which blooms in the Underworld where the demons came from.

But the flower is frozen as Gray appears, giving Natsu his muffler back.

Marde Guile is shocked as Gray freezes his arm, the chapter ending as Gray reveals he is a Devil Slayer and he’ll destroy Tartaros.
