The Promised Neverland, a dystopian
thriller series involving a group of orphans who discover that they’re
basically livestock in a farm for monstrous beings resembling demons, is now
officially in Weekly Shonen Jump America. The plot is compelling and stands out
from other typical shounen fare, so I’ll keep an eye on it, though it’s not
necessarily something I’ll cover, since the possibility of something ending
abruptly in Shounen Jump is still a thing until a certain point. But it’s a
promising series and a nice way to fill in Bleach’s slot in the magazine.
Black Clover 75
The invasion of Kiten by Diamond
Kingdom begins as the Magic Knights on defense create a barrier.
They then assault the Lightning
General with magic, but it’s blocked as he counters with a series of ballistae
piercing through the barrier with ease.
Before the Lightning General can
finish his orders, the more boisterous mage bursts through the wall with a
massive elephant made of what’s supposed to be red clay, leading the attack on
Kiten himself.
The sheer power of their opponents
makes the Magic Knights in Kiten despair. But when the reckless Shining General
hears of the Golden Dawn’s mere 10 soldiers, he thinks they’re nothing.
However, we see that Yuno’s power
has grown, his wind magic blasting through the stone elephant. Sylph and Yuno
bicker slightly, though she seems fond of him nonetheless even though he
doesn’t use her power often.
Yami volunteers to go, Julius saying
he’ll stay here, because it might be a diversion, as well as wanting to protect
the king.
Asta asks to come, but Yami says
it’d be too dangerous. But Charmy then volunteers to keep him safe, Yami
agreeing to let them go along, Charmy wanting to see Yuno again.
The chapter ends as Rangils and
William comment on Yuno’s strength and move to help him as well in defending
Clover Kingdom.
Boku no Hero Academia 104
We’re told the rules of the 1st
stage of the provisional license exam again, Ms. Joke thinking there’s more to
it than just the “first 100 passing” aspect.
Aizawa agrees, thinking that this
might rush some attacking types into being reckless and having things turn out
bad for them.
Most of the balls from Ketsubutsu’s
group were deflected, the students combining their Quirks, one hardening the
balls and another throwing them with a Boomerang type Quirk, the trajectory
such that Yuuei’s students don’t know it since it’s underground.
But Jirou uses an enhancement to her
costume to blast the balls away. Some of them head towards Mineta, but he
combines his Quirk with Ashido’s to make a wall of acid that nullifies the
balls.
Tokoyami tries to attack one of the
students, but her Quirk allows her to pull her body inside itself to dodge the
attack. They’re impressed at how much Class A has improved from the Sports
Festival.
Deku thinks that this stage of the
fight is observation, since it’s unlikely they can land a hit easily without
analyzing the Quirks of their opponents.
Ms. Joke comments that the students
have to be a bit selfish in order to win, not being as concerned with others as
normal. And Yuuei shouldn’t get a swelled head merely because they stand at the
top, since Class A is still less experienced than the older participants.
Shindou uses his Quirk, Shake, to
create a minor earthquake, shattering the earth around them and creating
openings for attacks.
We shift over to another group of
students, Inasa appearing and using what seems to be a wind based Quirk to take
their balls away from them and send a barrage of them at the students, the
first to pass as he takes out 120 students at once, his power nothing to
underestimate.
Deku notes how that 1 extra year of
training gives the older students an edge that Yuuei’s Class A doesn’t have,
needing to cooperate to catch up and close the gap of experience in some way.
He’s excited in spite of the challenge posed to their group.
But suddenly, one of his targets is
hit by a ball, a girl from Shiketsu high that they met earlier appearing with
some kind of mobility Quirk.
The chapter ends as she comments
that he’s pretty cool to be able to smile in a situation like this as they
square off.
World Trigger 155
We’re told that since Ouji knows the
locations of Chika and Oki, they’ll be picking them off, since they’re the
weaker members of the squads, slowly trimming the numbers down.
Oki communicates the situation to
Ikoma, who tells him to head towards where they are.
Yuma explains things to Osamu, who
says that he’s going to the north, where Ikoma’s likely to meet up, noting that
he has Wires there.
The plan is for the groups to meet
back up, so the Snipers aren’t weak and vulnerable on their own.
Ouji squad’s member, Kashio, nicknamed
Casio, goes after Chika. He remembers their strategy meeting, discussing how
Chika doesn’t fire normal bullets. They can get around the sniping with
Teruya’s strategy, but her Lead Bullet Hound is tougher to avoid. The solution
is to stop her from attacking by attacking her, so she has to use Shield, since
Lead Bullet combos requires 2 Trigger slots open.
Chika makes a little hop, who makes
Kashio think there are Wires in the area, which keeps him at a distance for a
while.
Osamu leaps in to protect Chika from
Kashio’s blasts, supporting her as she unleashes Lead Bullet Hound.
Kashio can’t dodge, his legs
immobilized as Osamu goes in for the final blow. Chika defends him with Shield
support as he cuts down Kashio, Tamakoma-2 in the lead with 2 points.
With this strategy of keeping the
opponent off balance with the threat of traps, Osamu’s managed to get the
advantage over Ouji squad, only left with their captain.
Yuma is being overwhelmed by the
deceptive strategy of Ikoma squad’s members, along with Ikoma’s powerful
Kogetsu and Oki’s Sniper attacks.
Osamu and Chika move to support
their captain, but Ouji himself attacks Osamu, the chapter ending on their
inevitable fight starting.
Seven Deadly Sins 189
Elizabeth explains to Meliodas
briefly how she has seen his past and understands why she feels so nostalgic
towards him, thanking the Sin of Wrath for being here.
She wonders if he’s okay, but he
says he’s fine, very confident at being in tiptop shape. He then does what was
a common procedure of feeling up Elizabeth, making it about trying to make sure
her uniform is up to code for being a waitress at the Boar’s Hat. She says it's fine, but then tries to pass it off as something innocent, since she normally doesn't like it.
Zaratras is happy to see Meliodas
again, the two of them some of the older friends from when Meliodas was still
someone unknown to Liones and before the Seven Deadly Sins came to be.
The group heads out to Liones with
increased haste, Hawk giving Meliodas his Sacred Treasure, Lostvayne.
Meanwhile, Monspiet is trying to
help Derriere, the Commandment of Purity, who stabilizes herself with demonic
energy. They’re confused at Meliodas being alive, since they saw him killed by
Estarossa before. Derriere asks Monspiet to give her everything he has,
Monspiet summoning all his demons.
This allows them to serve as targets
for Derriere to build up her Combo Star, striking Hawk Mama with 52 power
attack, knocking her down.
She then strikes Hawk with 53 power, seemingly
knocking him away as well.
But Meliodas comes in, taking her
out and disrupting the combo right afterwards.
We flashback to Derriere explaining
that she’s going to occupy Meliodas’ attention so Monspiet can blast them both,
the Commandment of Purity confident she can take the blow.
Meliodas, meanwhile, is saying he
doesn’t want to kill the people he betrayed, deflecting her blows with ease.
Suddenly, Monspiet unleashes a
similar fiery dragon blast, but then Meliodas reveals he’s changed his ways,
kicking Derriere into the path of the attack and then using Full Counter,
preparing to kill them both.
The chapter ends as the pair are
seemingly vaporized by the sheer force of the attack reflected back on them
with double power.
Magi 318
We move to the headquarters of the
International Alliance, isolated on the Tenzan Mountains except by airship.
Kougyoku arrives, as we meet
previous rulers of the major countries, such as Heliohapt, Sasan, Imuchakk and
Artemyra.
The main topic of discussion is
whether Reim will join the alliance, Mu Alexius, now the ambassador rather than
a member of the military, still standing on the principle that Reim wants
independence.
Sinbad thinks they can work this out
today, since he desires peace and cooperation between the nations.
The other diplomats and ambassadors
resent Reim for holding onto the Metal Vessels, but Mu says that even without
paying taxes towards the International Alliance’s working funds, they still pay
plenty to maintain their trading rights and the like.
Sinbad threatens them with economic
sanctions, but before things go further, Kougyoku asks if she can bring in a
guest.
It turns out to be Yamato, the king
of Kina, people saying they should be arrested for holding Metal Vessels.
Kougyoku counters that if they’re
not in the International Alliance, their rules don’t apply, announcing that the
Kou Empire will be leaving said alliance, to the shock of everyone.
Sinbad wonders if they understand
what they will lose in pulling out of the International Alliance, Kougyoku
saying that they do: they’ll have to pay import taxes, like Reim and they can’t
rely on the Seven Seas Alliance for protection, not to mention having to still
pay off their war reparations.
Kougyoku further emphasizes that the
Kou Empire wants to stand on its own, even abolishing slavery on its own. With
that, she forgives Sinbad for manipulating her, since she admits that his
intervention was what stopped the civil war in Kou and brought the world to
peace, which she compliments him for.
The chapter ends as she thanks him
for this, Sinbad stunned at this change of tone from what was a weak willed
girl he was able to twist to his own designs, now standing as an independent
woman.
One Piece 838
Luffy, in full Gear Four, rushes at
Cracker, who tries to use his Pretzel Roll again, but his sword is smashed to
pieces, even his body seemingly destroyed
But Cracker doesn’t seem fazed as
someone new pops out from cover and slashes into Luffy’s arm, making him rear
back in pain.
It turns out this is the true form
of Cracker, the original armored behemoth we saw before just a proxy that he
created with his Biscuit Biscuit Fruit powers.
Luffy’s one of the few to make him
reveal his true form, a testament to Luffy’s abilities, since the World
Government only has a wanted poster with his armor as the representation.
Cracker’s power is truly astounding,
able to make many more of the armored forms we initially met, taunting Luffy
with the futility of trying to fight him.
Luffy unleashes a new attack, Kong
Organ, but Cracker’s armor soldiers advance forward as Cracker strikes at Luffy
with Honey Pretzel, Luffy narrowly dodging.
Meanwhile, Nami is still
intimidating the Homies with the presence of Big Mom’s Vivre Card, scaring them
more than Cracker or Big Mom.
Chopper explains a plan to Carrot
inside Brulee’s Mirror World, trying to use the connection it has to every
mirror of Whole Cake Island to their advantage.
Pedro and Brooke are still on their
infiltration mission, Pedro’s previous experience aiding them in progressing
towards success, though there’s still risk involved.
The next day, Big Mom gets an update
on things, including a report that the Vinsmoke siblings are nearly all
gathered together on Whole Cake Island
The chapter ends as we see Ichiji
and Niji, the 2 eldest sons of Judge arriving on the scene after their battle.
One Piece is on break next week
Toriko 385
Brunch is skeptical of PAIR’s offer,
saying he’ll have to prove he’s trustworthy. The Blue Nitro says that when
Toriko and the others first used Riddle Chapter, the data they use was put in
by him.
And Toriko thinks it adds up, since
PAIR would be the only one who had direct information on NEO, since he consumed
part of Acacia, who was melded with NEO. So that piece of Acacia granted some
information on NEO to Riddle Chapter as well
Teppei’s stabilizing, Toriko asking
if he can remove the Knocking. Brunch is still worried, since he’s aware of NEO’s
Capture Level.
Meanwhile, Acacia is impressed at
how powerful Midora is, enraged as his adoptive son doesn’t even look at him.
He tries to use Gourmet Punch on
him, but Midora utilizes Minority World, turning the attack back on him.
Joa makes a surprise attack, the Satan
Hole technique piercing into space. But Midora managed to dodge that as well
with Minority World, the attack reflected onto the chef as Midora tells her
that his Full Course is full of memories moreso than food itself.
Joa continues to assault him as
Midora explains how the experiences he had with Frohze and the others as a family
were the Full Course that he developed, the attacks still not fazing him in the
slightest.
More attacks are unleashed on Midora
as he continues to exposit his Full Course, rooted in Frohze’s kindness and
values of wanting peace and unity through cooking for all people, treating even
someone like him, an urchin from obscurity and poverty, like someone who
mattered.
Joa finds that he’s run out of
Gourmet Luck as Midora explains that his appetite was frustrated with Frohze’s
death, her cooking the only thing that could remotely sate him.
But as Joa uses the last of their Gourmet
Luck, Acacia appearing, Toriko rushes in, punching Acacia away, Midora chalking
that up to his own Gourmet Luck
He begins to destroy Joa’s body, the
chef trying to manipulate Midora’s feelings, and even confirming that he
probably is Joa’s soul in Frohze’s body as he reverts to his evil nature and
tries to seal Midora away again.
But the attack is negated as Frohze’s
body is destroyed. Joa asks how he can destroy that which has so many memories
connected to it, Midora saying he has them safely in his stomach, his appetite remembering
well.
The chapter ends as he leaves his
Full Course as a souvenir to Joa to tell Frohze in the Back Channel if he ever
finds her, leaving that battle to face Acacia.
Fairy Tail 499
Gray and Juvia fight, Juvia more reluctant, while
Gray is being compelled by the darkness in his heart and gaining the advantage,
Juvia unable to fight as effectively against her love.
Invel remembers Zeref showing him a pendant on his
neck that has a picture of him and Natsu, the Winter General thinking the only
thing that stands in the way of Zeref conquering the world after defeating
Acnologia is END.
Juvia is still hesitating to fight Gray, but she
doesn’t want to just give up, resolving to end her own life so Gray doesn’t
feel any guilt in killing her by his own actions.
Invel says she can’t resist the power of his Ice
Lock, but Juvia insists her feelings are too powerful to be chained by his
abilities, manifesting a water blade and impaling herself.
But it also turns out Gray stabbed himself, neither
of them willing to attack their comrade. Invel thinks they’re insane, the pair
falling down as the magic dissipates, Invel leaving them to finish off Natsu on
his own.
Gray is stunned as he realizes he’s not dead, Juvia
using a special water magic to transfuse her own blood into his. As she dies
Gray begs her not to leave him, wanting to take her feelings seriously as Juvia
passes on saying that her heart belonged to no one else.
The chapter ends as Invel is trying to follow
Brandish, but is stunned to see Gray, his fury manifesting as he plans to fight
him again with newfound strength.
