WSR 2-16-15

Disclaimer: These aren’t official translations, merely scanlations. Buy localized or original manga to support the author if at all possible. Know the difference between piracy/theft and sharing without personal profit.

Black Clover, a Jump Start by the same author as Hungry Joker, is running in WSJ. I’m not entirely confident about its survival, since I’m not familiar with Japan’s tastes, so I won’t be covering it, but I do recommend you read the first chapter to get an idea of what it’s about.

We should have Magi and World Trigger next week, so a full week's of manga and more would be fun.

Boku no Hero Academia 30

We start by establishing that Todoroki and Monoma’s teams are in the top two spots, and Deku’s group won’t even place in the top 4, so they’ll be disqualified if they can’t get Deku’s headband back or something that would put them in those tiers.

Bakugou leaps off the horse of his friends to attack, but one of Monoma’s allies uses their Quirk, Solid Air, to block the strike. Bakugou manages to get around and grab two of the headbands, putting them in second place. Monoma’s group is in 4th place, so they’re still steady as long as they can protect their remaining headband.

But the explosive Quirk user says he won’t settle for 2nd, he’ll get to 1st place and win with his, Deku and Todoroki’s headbands.

Combining Sero’s Tape Quirk and Ashido’s, Bakugou rushes past Monoma, stealing their last headband. Some of the pro heroes, including All Might, comment that Bakugou’s resolve is stronger than anyone else’s, pushing himself to the limit in this competition.

There’s only 30 seconds left, Deku and Todoroki clashing. Deku manages to knock away Todoroki’s flame arm, the Fire and Ice user wondering why he even used that one to attack.

They grab the top headband, assuming that was the most recent one acquired, which would be Deku’s, but find that Todoroki switched them.

In the last 10 seconds, there’s a mad dash to get the headbands and solidify their positions.

The conclusion of the Human Cavalry has Todoroki’s team in first, Bakugou’s in second, Shinso, a Quirk user who seems to be able to control people, in third and Deku, with a desperate move from Tokoyami, in 4th.

After a 1 hour break, the afternoon portions will begin.

We see Deku and Todoroki meet up, others grouping together to talk about their victories and losses, and the chapter ends as we see All Might and Endeavor run into each other.

Seven Deadly Sins 114 + Vampires of Edinburgh Special Part 1

We see the results of a character popularity poll from last year, King placing first above even Ban and Meliodas.

The chapter begins with Slader helping Bartra up after they recovered from Gowther’s Black Out power.

Guila and Zeal’s memories are restored by Gowther. Guila apologizes to Zeal, Gowther also trying to make amends.

But Guila forgives and thanks him, knowing that she made the decision to drink the Demon Blood and become what she is. She also thanks him for reminding her of Holy Knight Dale, her father, and the kindness that he showed to her (it actually fits well with the anime’s introduction and relationship Gowther has with Dale)

Slader appears, Merlin asking him to perform a task for her. Meliodas thinks he won’t do it, but the Dawn Roar captain was captivated by Merlin’s magical skill which allowed them to save the king.

Merlin uses Absolute Cancel on Gowther, shrinking him down. It’s revealed he was a doll created by someone other than Merlin and that the return to his true form is temporary even with Merlin’s Absolute Cancel ability. She will give Slader the case later, but they have to complete the mission Bartra gave them to save Camelot.

Diane asks Meliodas if he knew this, the Sin of Wrath saying he’s just as surprised. But ultimately, he doesn’t care, since Gowther is still their comrade. He asks Slader to come with them, Slader agreeing since the king asked him to help them as well.

Elizabeth asks to come with them as well, Meliodas still saying that it’s pointless, since there’s no reason for her to come with them. He even goes so far as to say that she isn’t really anything more than baggage, Diane and Hawk knocking him around as Elizabeth runs off.

Slader finds her and suggests that she prove her love with her actions, since, in his view, women are affected by words while men are influenced by actions.

Merlin checks on the situation in Camelot, noting a huge power and teleporting the group to the kingdom.

Arthur is setting up strategy and tactics, shocked as the Boar’s Hat and Hawk’s mom appear out of the sky above Camelot. The chapter ends as Merlin, Diane, Meliodas and Slader prepare to help Arthur fight the giant preparing to destroy the kingdom.

With only 3 of the seven Sins fighting, alongside Slader, this feels like the battle will have reinforcements from elsewhere at some point, possibly even Escanor, though the only amount we’ve seen is from the extra and we won’t get the next one for at least a month or so.

The extra chapter (divided into at least 2 parts), starts with some backstory about Edinburgh, a neighboring city to Liones. Its entire population was either massacred or turned into vampires.

We shift to Liones where an emissary from Edinburgh, Doni, demands an audience with King Bartra. He kills a few knights, tasked with taking over Liones by the Vampire King’s general, but is stopped by Zaratras, who uses his Purge power to cleanse them of their vampire curse.

Zaratras calls for the Seven Deadly Sins as we move to their location. King and Merlin discuss how the Vampire Clan was released from a seal on their sarcophagus in a cave to the east. The other Sins meet up and convene with Zaratras, Hendricksen and Dreyfus.

The status of Edinburgh is explained by Merlin, vampires having surrounded the castle in darkness, so that their power level remains enhanced by that appearance of night.

The castle has also been affected with magic that alters space so Merlin can’t use teleportation magic. Meliodas says they should just charge in, since it’ll give them the element of surprise, the others reluctantly agreeing. Meliodas and Ban will stay behind, Gowther, Diane, Merlin and King going ahead. Zaratras, Dreyfus and Hendricksen will guard Liones in the meantime.

Meliodas even admits that the Sins’ lack of teamwork is actually their greatest strength, since they’re all so powerful anyway.

We briefly see Meliodas meet young Elizabeth, Veronica taking her away and telling her that Meliodas is dangerous.

Ban is doing reconnaissance near the castle, other vampiric Holy Knights attacking him. But he defeats them easily, drawing out Orlondi, one of the vampire nobles. He starts to draw out Ban’s blood, possibly putting him in danger.

We shift elsewhere as Meliodas is carrying Escanor’s Sacred Treasure, leaving the next part up to him as the first part ends with Escanor’s first appearance showing that he seems fairly gangly and weak, though that will likely change.

One Piece 777

As Kyros defeats Diamante, others related to his killing of Scarlet, such as King Riku, Viola and Tank, all reminisce on the past.

Diamante crashes into Scarlett’s grave, knocked out. Rebecca goes to Kyros’ side, Robin hiding the fact that she protected the princess from some of the spiked balls, her back damaged.

Kyros and Rebecca realize that they’re at Scarlett’s grave, both smiling at her memory and the promise Kyros made to Rebecca as the toy soldier to stay with her forever.

Viola establishes the remaining enemies left to fight: Bellamy, Pica, Trebol and Doflamingo.

Riku leaves to go into the city and help, the others following him. Usopp asks where Fujitora is, Kanjuro explaining that he already left.

Pica appears where Diamante is defeated from the ground, asking Kyros and Rebecca why they fight for Riku. Kyros responds that he respects Riku for standing by him even when he was seen as a criminal.

The Stone Man leaves, Zoro frustrated at his constant disappearing.

Pica appears elsewhere, knocking people away and targeting Baby 5 for her betrayal. Zoro manages to stop his attack, but Pica reveals he’s lured Zoro away so he can target the Royal Plateau where Riku and the others are.

Zoro desperately goes through various plans to figure out how to stop Pica, but he eventually concludes he just has to jump into the air and chop him in half as the chapter ends on this resolution.

Bleach 616

Juhabach emphasizes how pointless it is to try to revive the Soul King as the chapter begins.

We see Hueco Mundo and the Living World affected in their own ways as well as Soul Society, all either crumbling or slowly cracking. Even the Quincies are trying to wrap their head around Juhabach wanting to destroy all worlds.

The Soul Reapers’ group wonders if there’s anything they can do, Ukitake stepping forward, revealing that he will take the place of the Soul King, the others shocked at this revelation.

He channels the Kamikake, revealing that he has made some sort of contract with an entity called Mimihagi sama, buried in his organs. It was done when he was three years old, to save him from dying of a lung disease, his white hair the lasting effect of the illness.

Mimihagi sama is a god from the far eastern part of Rukongai, said to be able to grant divine protection to those who sacrifice anything but the eye that the deity already possesses. Legend says it served as the Soul King’s right hand in ancient times.

With that power, his parents having done so out of superstition because the doctors abandoned him as a lost cause, he became strong enough to protect Soul Society in the Gotei 13.

Ukitake begins to cough up blood, Mimihagi taking over his body as a yorishiro, like in Shinto shikigami practices.

Rukia asks if Ukitake knew this would happen, the 13th Squad captain saying he had a feeling and that he’s willing to surrender the life he thought he might have lost to protect Soul Society.

The chapter ends as Ukitake seemingly is taken over and we shift to Shunsui in the deepest recesses of Seireitei, speaking to Aizen in the darkness of his prison.

Toriko 313

As Toriko’s group moves to fight Bambina, we see that the Komatsu that Kaka met was actually a Poison Doll from Coco, the real one elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Sani covered the ring in his hair to hide its presence from someone.

Toriko and company clash with Bambina, dodging each attack, following the same pattern as before:, rock paper scissors, the pointing game, taking out the knees from behind and arm wrestling. The group thinks this shows the true nature of Enbu.

A few days before when they were training for Enbu, Sani comments on how Coco managed to predict that Zebra would need a Poison Doll and replacing his own legs with Poison copies.

Coco has Zebra turn everyone’s voices into Sound Bullets, masking it, and writes out his message in poison to conceal it from prying eyes or ears.

He noticed a set of murals when Kaka was guiding them around the ruins that weren’t preparation for an ingredient, but something resembling monkeys dancing. Since Bambina’s motions resembled the first part of the murals, Coco was able to predict ahead of time how he should act.

The theory goes that Enbu is actually an attempt to perform the Monkey Dance under the pretense of kata in martial arts. This will somehow lead to acquiring PAIR, though it’s not confirmed.

There are around 1000 murals, so with Bambina doing 10 of them in 0.1 seconds, the whole dance would only take about 10 seconds. But the most important thing is that if this is indeed the method to prepare PAIR, they can’t let Kaka know about it.

We see Kaka in a rage, her face twisted into a monstrous appearance. Komatsu was seemingly a distraction that they planned ahead of time to keep her occupied.

Since Toriko’s group made a slight error, they have to start the dance over again, but their goal is to do it so they can get PAIR at its fullest flavor as the chapter ends.

Fairy Tail 420

Lucy, Happy and Natsu arrive at Tuu Village, commenting on a clock tower Natsu half destroyed early in the series that’s been repaired, the old parts still visible.

Natsu’s frustrated that they haven’t found Erza, Gray or Laxus, wanting to test his new strength on them. He then challenges Lucy, who says she might be interested.

But before they can start, Natsu notices something, firing a blast that goes right under Lucy’s skirt and takes out some robbers far away, shocking the trader whose wagon was attacked. Natsu then thinks Lucy wouldn’t even be a warm-up, irritating her that he even brought it up.

Lucy explains that while she doesn’t exactly know where everyone is, she has decent ideas. Their next location is Margaret, where Lamia Scale is and some former Fairy Tail members as well.

There’s a festival going on, called Thanksgiving Day (no relation to the real holiday). Lyon, Toby and the master all do performances; Lyon’s the only one worth recognizing mostly, since his Ice Make is good for non-combat acts as well.

The main event is Chelia and Wendy, who are apparently an idol group now.  Natsu’s confused, Lucy stating that the others had to join guilds, since they still needed work, though it also seems a lot of the guilds may have stopped focusing on combat in the last year or so. The celebration is like Magnolia’s Harvest Festival, promoting harmony between the guild and the town.

Happy wonders where Charle is, the cat appearing behind them. But she looks far more human now, just having cat ears and a tail mostly.

The chapter ends as a mysterious guild threatens Lamia Scale with judgment.
