Boku no Hero Academia 31

Deku and Todoroki’s conversation starts with the Fire and Ice user saying he was impressed by the All For One user’s tactics, making him almost use his Fire side. The power he felt from Deku was like All Might’s, which Todoroki experienced when the hero beat Noumu back in their training exercise and the villain attack.

Todoroki asks if Deku is biologically related to All Might, Deku saying that’s not it at all. But Shoto still insists there’s some connection between the #1 hero and Deku, and since Todoroki’s father, Endeavor, is the #2 hero, they’ve gotten a rivalry of sorts.

Meanwhile, All Might is trying to be friendly with Endeavor, who’s making every effort to get away. After All Might asks him about tips to raise the next generation, since Todoroki did so well in spite of only using half his Quirk’s powers, Endeavor simply says he strove to make a hero stronger than All Might, so Todoroki was the result.  This callous regard towards his son startles All Might.

Todoroki explains that his dad tried his best to be the strongest, but could never measure up to All Might. So he devised a plan, which involved arranging a marriage to maximize the power of his own Quirk. Todoroki’s mother was so traumatized and hurt by her son’s existence related to his father that she burned the left side of his face with boiling water.

The Fire and Ice user says he plans to become #1 without using the power from his father, as a way to say that he’s better overall.

Deku is speechless at this revelation, thinking to himself he can’t really match up to it. But he still speaks up, telling Todoroki that he’s here because of the help from others, so he’ll take the challenge, saying he’ll be #1 as well.

Meanwhile, before the afternoon events, we see that the girls have been tricked by Mineta and Kaminari into changing to cheerleader outfits to participate in the other events that are more common to a Japanese sports festival.

The chapter ends as we are told the last part of the Yuuei Sports Festival is a tournament with the 16 participants left fighting for the top spot.

Seven Deadly Sins 115

As the group floats over Camelot, Merlin analyzes the creature, figuring out it has various power sources, but it’s not living.

Meliodas confirms it’s a weapon from the ancient war, Great Beast Albion.

Hawk is astonished when he sees that the beast has a power level of 5500.

Albion attacks the castle, Merlin revealing she had placed a barrier on the castle. But it doesn’t have as much strength, since it has a larger range, the beast breaking through it with another attack.

The golem monster then unleashes a blast that Arthur’s Holy Knights manage to neutralize. But it fires another attack, Meliodas using Full Counter to reflect it back.

Arthur joins forces with Meliodas to attack Albion, focusing on getting to the chest where its core lies.

Arthur is attacked by Albion, Meliodas managing to free the king with his sword. But it breaks with all the damage it’s taken in battles since he got it.

The chapter ends as Merlin says she’ll decide later about returning the other thing she and Meliodas discussed, but she’ll give him his Sacred Treasure, Lost Vain, back for the present fight.

Magi 256

Aladdin confirms what many thought in the last chapter’s end: that he’s finally able to use Solomon’s magic.

But Judar pushes him back, breaking through his Borg, reminding the mage that he’s only managed to return an attack, he still hasn’t gotten to the level of mastery.

Aladdin agrees, thinking to himself he still needs to be able to see the vectors like Solomon could.

Judar wonders why Aladdin’s even trying, but Aladdin replies that he’s the only one who can stop him, since they’re half of the Magi in this world. Aladdin resolves to stop Judar, even though he can’t see the vectors as his father did.

Back with Alibaba and Hakuryuu’s fight, Hakuryuu sends Zagan’s plants at the Amon Djinn user, but he blows them away with fire attacks.

Hakuryuu then utilizes Belial’s Djinn equip, only a few months after acquiring it, a skeletal appearance that’s very intimidating and macabre.

The attacks are able to be dodged, Alibaba noting it’s slower than Zagan. But Hakuryuu temporarily manipulates Zagan’s plants, binding Alibaba’s leg and cutting it off with Belial.

The chapter ends as Alibaba notes that it didn’t feel like he cut it off, but did something else.

I’m guessing this is an illusionary ability that’s just more concentrated in some way.

World Trigger 93

As Murakumo meets with Arafune, they don’t hit it off well, sort of tense with Murakumo commenting on Arafune bringing out his Kogetsu after so long.

The #4 Attacker says he wants to see how strong Yuma is after seeing their strategy that made Arafune draw his Kogetsu.

Murakumo even asks Midorikawa to help him, but Shun rejects his offer, having already lost over 250 points in fighting Yuma in Rank Wars.

Yosuke volunteers to fight, but since he doesn’t use Grasshopper, he’s not interesting to Murakumo. Yuma puts himself out to fight, saying it’d be a good way to assess them as their next opponent.

Yosuke and Arafune both say it’s too risky and it might make them lose their next match, but Yuma persists, saying he’s still curious as to how strong Murakumo is and how he fights.

Murakumo says he’ll fight him, but only on 2 conditions: 1) they have 10 rounds and 2) they have a 15 minute break at 5 rounds.

The match begins as we shift to Chika and Reiji at a ramen shop.

Chika inquires as to how long Reiji has worked out, Reiji responding he’s done it since his dad encouraged him to do so to protect people important to him. The body is the most important part, according to him, the mind following.

Reiji explains that his dad died 9 years ago, so they can’t be entirely sure if it was a Neighbor attack and the child wasn’t reliable as a witness.

Chika says he must’ve been great, but Reiji says he wasn’t as great as he could’ve been, since he died and thus was unable to save people in the first actual Neighbor invasion. Reiji emphasizes that he’s training himself and Chika so they can both come back alive from away missions in the future.

Yuma and Kou’s Rank war reaches the midpoint, Yuma at 4 to Murakumo’s 1 victory. Osamu thinks he can create a strategy around Yuma, since he’s doing so well, but Yosuke warns him that Kou gets really dangerous at this point, the Attacker nodding to take a nap.

Jin playfully flirts with a member of Nasu squad, saying that she should see the match between her two opponents, since it’ll be over soon

The chapter ends as we see Murakumo has won 6-4 against Yuma, revealing that he has a Side Effect of enhanced sleep learning, taking the natural organization the brain does in sleep to the extreme.

One Piece 778

As Pica heads towards the Royal Plateau, everyone else is trying to figure out what they can do.

King Elizabello is preparing to use his King Punch, but Zoro stops him, saying they need to find the main body or he’ll keep regenerating.

Zoro notices Admiral Orlumbus is nearby, asking him about his skill of throwing people.

Riku is standing on the Royal Plateau, drawing Pica’s attention so everyone else can get away safely.

Zolo is prepared to be thrown by Orlumbus, not concerned about whether he’ll get out unscathed or not. As he’s thrown, he reveals he’s using the Ougi, the ultimate technique, of Santouryuu

Pica taunts Riku, saying he was unable to save his country through his peace loving ways. Riku acknowledges this, saying that he’d rather keep to his principles than become a murderer to protect his people.

Zoro uses Ichidai Sanzen, Daisen Sekai; Greater Three Thousand, One Thousand Worlds, cutting Pica in half at the waist. With this, he’s more vulnerable, Zoro chopping him in half again vertically. But he doesn’t know which half Pica’s hiding in until he appears.

Pica is ready to crush Zoro, shielding himself with Haki to protect his otherwise vulnerable stone body, but Zoro slices through it as well with Sanzen Sekai-Three Thousand Worlds, defeating the main body.

But the rest of the stone body is falling, King Elizabello using his King Punch to smash it to pieces, saving everyone as the chapter ends.

Bleach 617

Ukitake’s body has Mimihagi’s power erupt from him into the sky, and the quaking ceases.

Back in the Soul Palace, Juhabach is astonished, demanding to know why this happened, seemingly unable to have seen this coming even with his Almighty power. We see Mimihagi wrapped around the Soul King, keeping things balanced in the meantime.

Soifon thinks that this is only a temporary solution and that it will fall apart after Ukitake’s life force is fully drained. Urahara says that’s possible, but the major focus now is to find a way to ensure continued stability after Ukitake expires. The group moves to head up to Soul Palace with the gate.

Meanwhile, Shunsui asks Aizen why he isn’t communicating with reiatsu, implying he might be against it for some reason. He reveals he was given the keys to release 3 of the seals on Aizen, the first being his mouth.

The gate to the Royal Palace is disappearing, Urahara figuring that Ukitake’s amount of reiatsu must’ve been especially high, so they can’t maintain the gate. But the Visored appear to lend their energy. And Mayuri shows up as well, revealing that he had a reiatsu enhancement machine to allow them to get the amount of energy they needed, not expecting things to get this out of hand to actually use it.

Shunsui asks whether Aizen can even speak, since he’s been sealed for 2 years. Aizen speaks confidently, Shunsui shocked that most of the other seals have been broken. The chapter ends as Aizen asks Shunsui to continue with the other 2 keys he has remaining.

Toriko 314

Kaka is feverishly trying to figure out what happened to Komatsu, noting that Yunyun the Wall Penguin is nowhere to be seen either.

The Denshark’s autonomy mode ends around that point, 100x normal gravity crushing it. Kaka manages to escape, but is surrounded by the animals.

She says she has to question Toriko and the others, threatening the animals to not attack her with her Intimidation.

Meanwhile, Toriko’s group is working to synchronize their cells, having found that in doing so with 2 people doubles their Enbu power, so with the 4 of them, they may be able to keep up with Bambina’s Monkey Dance.

They’re able to predict some of the motions that Coco couldn’t recall because the murals were damaged in places with his divination power, PAIR’s bell ringing as they get closer to completion.

The sensation is incredible, even somewhat subduing the Gourmet Cell demons as the Four Heavenly Kings feel as if they’re on top of the world.

As they reach the end, the tension is at its highest, since the panel for the final move was never there, the group having to rely on instinct. Bambina pauses, the group thinking they might’ve failed.

The Monkey King rushes at them in a rage, trying to bite at the group and missing.

Zebra thinks they need to just take it by force now, unleashing a sound explosion that seemingly disrupts Bambina’s stability.

The group then combines their powers together to strike Bambina with their ultimate Enbu technique, Shitennou Seiken-Four Heavenly Kings True Fist, as the chapter ends, Bambina seemingly damaged more than before.

Fairy Tail 421

Wendy is embarrassed after her performance, somewhat roped into it by the others, particularly Chelia.

The Sky Dragon Slayer is exuberant when Natsu’s group shows up, stunned when they try to take her away.

After they explain they’re trying to bring Fairy Tail back together, the others point out that Makarov hasn’t been around either.

It turns out that the Magic Council has been reformed with the Ten Wizard Saints at the head, meaning Makarov is reasonably within their ranks, along with Jura.

Natsu asks Wendy to come with them, but she insists she’s part of Lamia Scale now. Charle tells the others not to force her, explaining about her transformation as magic she learned, enhancing her divination power as well.

Charle asks Wendy if she’s sure, the Dragon Slayer nodding in agreement. Natsu and the others are still in shock, Natsu suggesting they kidnap Wendy, which Lucy stops immediately.

Wendy and Chelia talk about Wendy’s staying with the guild, Wendy feeling like she has to stay for Chelia’s sake, since Sherry got married and left the guild. But Chelia reminds Wendy that she has the other guildmates.

An explosion from the guild is heard, a fire starting that begins to spread. It’s a monster attack from the rival guild in Margaret, Orochi’s Fin.

A huge army, numbering 100,000, appears on the outskirts of the city. Since there are summoners, they want to target those mages, but the monsters are like a wall.

Natsu volunteers to help, but Chelia uses Happy, Wendy with Charle, as they fly towards the enemies, ready to protect Lamia Scale as the chapter ends.

Disclaimer: These aren’t official translations, merely scanlations. Buy localized or original manga to support the author if at all possible. Know the difference between piracy/theft and sharing without personal profit.

Black Clover, a Jump Start by the same author as Hungry Joker, is running in WSJ. I’m not entirely confident about its survival, since I’m not familiar with Japan’s tastes, so I won’t be covering it, but I do recommend you read the first chapter to get an idea of what it’s about.

We should have Magi and World Trigger next week, so a full week's of manga and more would be fun.

Boku no Hero Academia 30

We start by establishing that Todoroki and Monoma’s teams are in the top two spots, and Deku’s group won’t even place in the top 4, so they’ll be disqualified if they can’t get Deku’s headband back or something that would put them in those tiers.

Bakugou leaps off the horse of his friends to attack, but one of Monoma’s allies uses their Quirk, Solid Air, to block the strike. Bakugou manages to get around and grab two of the headbands, putting them in second place. Monoma’s group is in 4th place, so they’re still steady as long as they can protect their remaining headband.

But the explosive Quirk user says he won’t settle for 2nd, he’ll get to 1st place and win with his, Deku and Todoroki’s headbands.

Combining Sero’s Tape Quirk and Ashido’s, Bakugou rushes past Monoma, stealing their last headband. Some of the pro heroes, including All Might, comment that Bakugou’s resolve is stronger than anyone else’s, pushing himself to the limit in this competition.

There’s only 30 seconds left, Deku and Todoroki clashing. Deku manages to knock away Todoroki’s flame arm, the Fire and Ice user wondering why he even used that one to attack.

They grab the top headband, assuming that was the most recent one acquired, which would be Deku’s, but find that Todoroki switched them.

In the last 10 seconds, there’s a mad dash to get the headbands and solidify their positions.

The conclusion of the Human Cavalry has Todoroki’s team in first, Bakugou’s in second, Shinso, a Quirk user who seems to be able to control people, in third and Deku, with a desperate move from Tokoyami, in 4th.

After a 1 hour break, the afternoon portions will begin.

We see Deku and Todoroki meet up, others grouping together to talk about their victories and losses, and the chapter ends as we see All Might and Endeavor run into each other.

Seven Deadly Sins 114 + Vampires of Edinburgh Special Part 1

We see the results of a character popularity poll from last year, King placing first above even Ban and Meliodas.

The chapter begins with Slader helping Bartra up after they recovered from Gowther’s Black Out power.

Guila and Zeal’s memories are restored by Gowther. Guila apologizes to Zeal, Gowther also trying to make amends.

But Guila forgives and thanks him, knowing that she made the decision to drink the Demon Blood and become what she is. She also thanks him for reminding her of Holy Knight Dale, her father, and the kindness that he showed to her (it actually fits well with the anime’s introduction and relationship Gowther has with Dale)

Slader appears, Merlin asking him to perform a task for her. Meliodas thinks he won’t do it, but the Dawn Roar captain was captivated by Merlin’s magical skill which allowed them to save the king.

Merlin uses Absolute Cancel on Gowther, shrinking him down. It’s revealed he was a doll created by someone other than Merlin and that the return to his true form is temporary even with Merlin’s Absolute Cancel ability. She will give Slader the case later, but they have to complete the mission Bartra gave them to save Camelot.

Diane asks Meliodas if he knew this, the Sin of Wrath saying he’s just as surprised. But ultimately, he doesn’t care, since Gowther is still their comrade. He asks Slader to come with them, Slader agreeing since the king asked him to help them as well.

Elizabeth asks to come with them as well, Meliodas still saying that it’s pointless, since there’s no reason for her to come with them. He even goes so far as to say that she isn’t really anything more than baggage, Diane and Hawk knocking him around as Elizabeth runs off.

Slader finds her and suggests that she prove her love with her actions, since, in his view, women are affected by words while men are influenced by actions.

Merlin checks on the situation in Camelot, noting a huge power and teleporting the group to the kingdom.

Arthur is setting up strategy and tactics, shocked as the Boar’s Hat and Hawk’s mom appear out of the sky above Camelot. The chapter ends as Merlin, Diane, Meliodas and Slader prepare to help Arthur fight the giant preparing to destroy the kingdom.

With only 3 of the seven Sins fighting, alongside Slader, this feels like the battle will have reinforcements from elsewhere at some point, possibly even Escanor, though the only amount we’ve seen is from the extra and we won’t get the next one for at least a month or so.

The extra chapter (divided into at least 2 parts), starts with some backstory about Edinburgh, a neighboring city to Liones. Its entire population was either massacred or turned into vampires.

We shift to Liones where an emissary from Edinburgh, Doni, demands an audience with King Bartra. He kills a few knights, tasked with taking over Liones by the Vampire King’s general, but is stopped by Zaratras, who uses his Purge power to cleanse them of their vampire curse.

Zaratras calls for the Seven Deadly Sins as we move to their location. King and Merlin discuss how the Vampire Clan was released from a seal on their sarcophagus in a cave to the east. The other Sins meet up and convene with Zaratras, Hendricksen and Dreyfus.

The status of Edinburgh is explained by Merlin, vampires having surrounded the castle in darkness, so that their power level remains enhanced by that appearance of night.

The castle has also been affected with magic that alters space so Merlin can’t use teleportation magic. Meliodas says they should just charge in, since it’ll give them the element of surprise, the others reluctantly agreeing. Meliodas and Ban will stay behind, Gowther, Diane, Merlin and King going ahead. Zaratras, Dreyfus and Hendricksen will guard Liones in the meantime.

Meliodas even admits that the Sins’ lack of teamwork is actually their greatest strength, since they’re all so powerful anyway.

We briefly see Meliodas meet young Elizabeth, Veronica taking her away and telling her that Meliodas is dangerous.

Ban is doing reconnaissance near the castle, other vampiric Holy Knights attacking him. But he defeats them easily, drawing out Orlondi, one of the vampire nobles. He starts to draw out Ban’s blood, possibly putting him in danger.

We shift elsewhere as Meliodas is carrying Escanor’s Sacred Treasure, leaving the next part up to him as the first part ends with Escanor’s first appearance showing that he seems fairly gangly and weak, though that will likely change.

One Piece 777

As Kyros defeats Diamante, others related to his killing of Scarlet, such as King Riku, Viola and Tank, all reminisce on the past.

Diamante crashes into Scarlett’s grave, knocked out. Rebecca goes to Kyros’ side, Robin hiding the fact that she protected the princess from some of the spiked balls, her back damaged.

Kyros and Rebecca realize that they’re at Scarlett’s grave, both smiling at her memory and the promise Kyros made to Rebecca as the toy soldier to stay with her forever.

Viola establishes the remaining enemies left to fight: Bellamy, Pica, Trebol and Doflamingo.

Riku leaves to go into the city and help, the others following him. Usopp asks where Fujitora is, Kanjuro explaining that he already left.

Pica appears where Diamante is defeated from the ground, asking Kyros and Rebecca why they fight for Riku. Kyros responds that he respects Riku for standing by him even when he was seen as a criminal.

The Stone Man leaves, Zoro frustrated at his constant disappearing.

Pica appears elsewhere, knocking people away and targeting Baby 5 for her betrayal. Zoro manages to stop his attack, but Pica reveals he’s lured Zoro away so he can target the Royal Plateau where Riku and the others are.

Zoro desperately goes through various plans to figure out how to stop Pica, but he eventually concludes he just has to jump into the air and chop him in half as the chapter ends on this resolution.

Bleach 616

Juhabach emphasizes how pointless it is to try to revive the Soul King as the chapter begins.

We see Hueco Mundo and the Living World affected in their own ways as well as Soul Society, all either crumbling or slowly cracking. Even the Quincies are trying to wrap their head around Juhabach wanting to destroy all worlds.

The Soul Reapers’ group wonders if there’s anything they can do, Ukitake stepping forward, revealing that he will take the place of the Soul King, the others shocked at this revelation.

He channels the Kamikake, revealing that he has made some sort of contract with an entity called Mimihagi sama, buried in his organs. It was done when he was three years old, to save him from dying of a lung disease, his white hair the lasting effect of the illness.

Mimihagi sama is a god from the far eastern part of Rukongai, said to be able to grant divine protection to those who sacrifice anything but the eye that the deity already possesses. Legend says it served as the Soul King’s right hand in ancient times.

With that power, his parents having done so out of superstition because the doctors abandoned him as a lost cause, he became strong enough to protect Soul Society in the Gotei 13.

Ukitake begins to cough up blood, Mimihagi taking over his body as a yorishiro, like in Shinto shikigami practices.

Rukia asks if Ukitake knew this would happen, the 13th Squad captain saying he had a feeling and that he’s willing to surrender the life he thought he might have lost to protect Soul Society.

The chapter ends as Ukitake seemingly is taken over and we shift to Shunsui in the deepest recesses of Seireitei, speaking to Aizen in the darkness of his prison.

Toriko 313

As Toriko’s group moves to fight Bambina, we see that the Komatsu that Kaka met was actually a Poison Doll from Coco, the real one elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Sani covered the ring in his hair to hide its presence from someone.

Toriko and company clash with Bambina, dodging each attack, following the same pattern as before:, rock paper scissors, the pointing game, taking out the knees from behind and arm wrestling. The group thinks this shows the true nature of Enbu.

A few days before when they were training for Enbu, Sani comments on how Coco managed to predict that Zebra would need a Poison Doll and replacing his own legs with Poison copies.

Coco has Zebra turn everyone’s voices into Sound Bullets, masking it, and writes out his message in poison to conceal it from prying eyes or ears.

He noticed a set of murals when Kaka was guiding them around the ruins that weren’t preparation for an ingredient, but something resembling monkeys dancing. Since Bambina’s motions resembled the first part of the murals, Coco was able to predict ahead of time how he should act.

The theory goes that Enbu is actually an attempt to perform the Monkey Dance under the pretense of kata in martial arts. This will somehow lead to acquiring PAIR, though it’s not confirmed.

There are around 1000 murals, so with Bambina doing 10 of them in 0.1 seconds, the whole dance would only take about 10 seconds. But the most important thing is that if this is indeed the method to prepare PAIR, they can’t let Kaka know about it.

We see Kaka in a rage, her face twisted into a monstrous appearance. Komatsu was seemingly a distraction that they planned ahead of time to keep her occupied.

Since Toriko’s group made a slight error, they have to start the dance over again, but their goal is to do it so they can get PAIR at its fullest flavor as the chapter ends.

Fairy Tail 420

Lucy, Happy and Natsu arrive at Tuu Village, commenting on a clock tower Natsu half destroyed early in the series that’s been repaired, the old parts still visible.

Natsu’s frustrated that they haven’t found Erza, Gray or Laxus, wanting to test his new strength on them. He then challenges Lucy, who says she might be interested.

But before they can start, Natsu notices something, firing a blast that goes right under Lucy’s skirt and takes out some robbers far away, shocking the trader whose wagon was attacked. Natsu then thinks Lucy wouldn’t even be a warm-up, irritating her that he even brought it up.

Lucy explains that while she doesn’t exactly know where everyone is, she has decent ideas. Their next location is Margaret, where Lamia Scale is and some former Fairy Tail members as well.

There’s a festival going on, called Thanksgiving Day (no relation to the real holiday). Lyon, Toby and the master all do performances; Lyon’s the only one worth recognizing mostly, since his Ice Make is good for non-combat acts as well.

The main event is Chelia and Wendy, who are apparently an idol group now.  Natsu’s confused, Lucy stating that the others had to join guilds, since they still needed work, though it also seems a lot of the guilds may have stopped focusing on combat in the last year or so. The celebration is like Magnolia’s Harvest Festival, promoting harmony between the guild and the town.

Happy wonders where Charle is, the cat appearing behind them. But she looks far more human now, just having cat ears and a tail mostly.

The chapter ends as a mysterious guild threatens Lamia Scale with judgment.
